BRENNAN Molly Brennan, age 49, of 101 Shady Lane, Lexington, Kentucky, died on January 10, 2010 after a lengthy illness which she endured with courage, grace and resolve. Born January 26, 1960 to Joan Brennan Kennedy (Walter) and the late Lawrence Vail Brennan, she was raised in Northern Kentucky. Molly met her husband, Russell Holl, in a philosophy class at UK when she was 19, and they married eight years later.

She earned an MA in Communications Disorders from the University of South Carolina in 1983 and began the Ph.D. program in Communication Disorders at the University of Cincinnati with the plan to teach. While putting off writing her dissertation, Molly worked as a speech pathologist at Cardinal Hill Hospital and fell in love with treating adult neurologic communication disorders. After receiving her Ph.D. degree, she decided to remain in the clinical setting.

Her most recent job was at the Thompson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore. The happiest part of Molly's life was her family: son Alex, adopted at age ten after having come from Guatemala to Lexington's Shriners facility for medical treatment at age daughter Clare, adopted as an infant from Korea; and husband Russell, whose steadfast love honored and sustained her for many years. Surviving long enough to watch her children mature into the independent, competent and happy people they are was a major source of comfort to Molly. One of Molly's favorite pieces of advice to her children was "Life is not fair, and the sooner you realize that, the better off you'll along with "Attitude is A vegetarian since age 11, after learning of the cruelties of the animal industry, Molly loved her creatures: dog Ellie, granddog Oscar, and cats Jacobo and the underappreciated Iris. If it weren't for her husband putting down his foot, she likely would have turned into one of those strange women who house too many cats.

Besides her mother, husband and children, Molly is survived by her dear sister Michelle Lierl (Scott Gainey), brothers Larry Brennan (Karen Enzweiler) and Bob Brennan (Patricia), sister in law Gayle DiCarlantonio, mother- and father-in-law Winnie and Wally Holl, and many nieces and nephews. In addition, Molly will be missed by numerous friends and neighbors. She hoped that the traditions of the Derby Party and Progressive Dinners will continue. A Memorial Mass will be offered at St. Agnes Church in Fort Wright, Kentucky on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at 7 PM.

A reception will follow in the church undercroft. A celebration of Molly's life will be held at the UK Arboretum in Lexington, in the spring (date to be announced).
