BARNHART By Rebecca Goodman rgoodmanenquirer.com MOUNT WASHINGTON Frank Deimling, former owner of Globe Insurance Agency on Hyde Park Square, died April 30 at Hospice of Cincinnati in Anderson Township. The Mount Washington resident was 86.

He "lived an exemplary life, putting God first, family second and country third," said his daughter Karen Sue Brown of Eastgate. Mr. Deimling enjoyed holidays with his family, especially trimming the tree at Christmas. But his favorite was April Fools' Day. He usually was successful in getting someone.

Francis J. Deimling was the youngest of seven children of George A Deimling and Rose Steffen Deimling. He grew up in California, Ohio, and graduated from Purcell High School in 1941. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the U.S. Merchant Marine.

He served on the SS Seatrain Texas, which carried Sherman tanks and military supplies to the front He made 22 North Obituaries at Cincinnati.Com DafaCenfer If you missed a death notice, you can search the area's most comprehensive listing of paid and editorial obituaries at Cincinnati.Com. Deimling was transferred to the Pacific. He was stationed in the Philippines and occupied Japan before his honorable discharge in 1946. He married Ruth Elizabeth Henry at St. Jerome Church in California in June 1945. They raised five children.

Mr. Deimling worked as an assistant branch manager for the Northwestern National Insurance Co. and as head of fire insurance for the Selective Insurance Co. In 1966, he and his wife purchased the Globe Insurance Co. He retired in 1985.

Mr. Deimling was a member of the Greater Cincinnati Insurance Board. He was also a Kentucky Colonel and a trustee of the Anderson Township Historical Society. Since 2002 he had been chairman of the Ohio Valley Chapter of the Merchant Ma Historical Society. The unit has only nine soldiers, but they are designers, inspectors, engineers, quality-control managers.

They read the blueprints to make sure buildings or roads are being constructed the right way. To have an officer as high-ranking as a lieutenant colonel command such a small group is unusual, Guard officials say. But Gmitter, 44, of the Toledo suburb of Maumee, said his rank speaks to the experience that a soldier must have to be a member of the 204th. "If a lieutenant colonel is telling you that something isn't being built correctly, you may pay more attention," he said. The 204th, created in September 2007 as part of a later payments to year that ends in June will likely have to be plugged using the state's $1 billion rainy day fund, which Strickland and the Democratic-controlled House had planned on using to fund programs in the next two-year budget.
