"If you were on the street and hungry, and wondering where to 1 Kennedy Hts. man, 73, always helped others BY SHARON MORGAN The Cincinnati Enquirer KENNEDY HEIGHTS Ernest Mynatt, who was known as "Papa" in the Appalachian community, died of a heart attack Wednesday at Good Samaritan hospital. The Kennedy Heights resident was 73.

"Ernie dedicated his own life to working Vith people, particularly young people, and! he wants that work to go own," said hiswife, Maureen Sullivan, of Kennedy Heights, executive director of the Urban Appalachian Council. Mr. Mynatt, a Knox County, na-tivej joined the Appalachian migration norh to Cincinnati in the late 1950s. He eventually became a worker for the Appalachian Fund, helping other migrants find housing and financial assistance. Mr.

Mynatt was an inspiration with his strong traditions and the unconditional love he gave to the community, said Michael Maloney of Mount Auburn, founding director of the Urban Appalachian Council. "He was a civil rights leader and teaqher. I learned from his example that no One is a failure and love is what people need," Mr. Maloney said. During the 1960s, Mr.

Mynatt called for the recognition and inclusion of Appalachians in all aspects of the community especially the school system. He frequently spoke about inner-city conditions at local churches and civic organizations. His lead him to become an adviser to spend the night, Ernie Mr. Mynatt would show up. He was everybody's surrogate father," said Larry Redden, a senior staffer at the Urban Appalachian Council.

Mr. Mynatt earned a doctorate in psychology from the Union Institute in 1987. He taught 10 years in Harlan County, where he was raised, and several years at Courter Tech, now Cincinnati State College. He served in the Navy during World War II. Mr.

Mynatt also is survived by: a son, Michael of Chicago; two daughters, Katie Mynatt of Kennedy Heights and Donna Mynatt of Corbin, three sisters, Ruth Young and Noelle "Mickey" Mynatt, both of Corbin, and Noelle Wininger of Knox County; a brother, George Mynatt of Corbin; and two grandchildren. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Busse Borgman Funeral Home, 3464 Central Parkway. Services will begin at 1 p.m.

Graveside services will be Sunday in the family cemetery in Wilton, Ky. Memorials may be made to the Ernie Mynatt Memorial Fund, Urban Appalachian Council, 2115 W. Eighth Cincinnati 45204. The Dayton native was 97. Mrs. Shank graduated from Otterbein College and received a doctorate of law degtee from the University of Cincinnati. She served as executive secretary of college at UC and assistant dean of women from 1927-47. Eh 1947, she became dean of women and'registrar at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.

In 1955, she was the driving force behind the smooth alliance of fierce rivals, The College of Music of Cincinnati and the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, according to Joel Ebersole of Monfort Heights, a former student and music teacher at CCM. "She was able to calmly pull together diverse views, which is a talent in itself," CARMEN Gloria M. of Lake Worth, FL, passed over Wednesday, October 9, 1996 In her 72nd year, beloved wife ot the late Bill Carmen, loving mother ot Patrick Carmen, Gloria Choudury, Ken Hemsher, Skip Hemsher and the late Bob Hemsher, affectionate grandmother of ten and great-grandmother of four. CHENOWETH Rev. Rober age 73, born In Bedford, IN, October 10, 1923, formerly of Lebanon, OH, died Wednesday, October 9, 1996 at Good Samaritan Hospital Cincinnati. He Is survived by his wife Shirley Woods Chenoweth; daughter Paula Chenoweth of Indian Springs, OH; two sons, Steven Carl and Mark Duane of Marietta, GA; one granddaughter, Jennifer; brother, Rev. Kenneth Chenoweth of Mitchell, IN; a sister, lona Chastain of Cincinnati and several nieces and nephews. His parents Henry Carl and Elizabeth Barrett Chenoweth and a brother Waiter preceded him in death.

He was an ordained Methodist minister in addition to being a certified manufacturing engineer. While pursuing a career in engineering and management he served as pastor at the Brookville UMC, the Miami-town UMC, Villars Chapel UMC and as interim at Olive Branch UMC He graduated from Miami University, attended Garrett Theological School, Kettering Science and Engineering Institute and took engineering courses from ICS, Scranton, PA. Most of his 46 year career was spent as a design and manufacturing engineer and in related management positions. He retired as Vice President of the Shelter Corporation in Blue Ash, OH in 1989. He was past chairman of the Dayton, OH Chapter, Society of Manufacturing Engineers and as liaison to the Miami University student chapter of the Society.

Interested In the education of youth, Mr. Chenoweth served on the Advisory Council of the Miami University School of Applied Science for many years and on some area school advisory committees. He was the first chairman of the Great Oaks Advisory Council and was on the original committee that planned the Warren County Career Center. He also served as a consultant to Helipebs Controls, Limited, Gloucester, England. He was a member of the Lebanon United Methodist Church, the Bishop Society of Miami University, the International Platform Association and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.

He served as secretary of the Brookville, OH Planning Commission arid was a member of the Industry Council of the Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce. Funeral services are 10 A.M., Saturday at the Lebanon United Methodist Church, 122 Silver Lebanon. Rev. James D. Ludwick will officiate.

Galbralth Ret, Cincinnati, OH 45231. a Sfate Farm7 insurance agency and a former Cincinnati police sergeant, died of lung cancer Wednesday at his Groesbeck home. He was 82. "Me was considered to be a trustworthy and honest person," said his son, Jim Jaeger of Indian Hill. "He had a lot of respect from others.

He was stern but Mr. Jaeger was a sergeant from 1937 to 1S46. He had served in District 1 and District 5. He left the police division to open his business, Roy Jaeger State Farm Insurance Agency, in College Hill on Hamilton Avenue. He later moved to Harrison Avenue in Dent.

He retired in 1985. The Woodward High School graduate was 'raised in the West End. He was past president of the Masonic Centennial Club and the Masonic Softball and ibowling leagues.
