TUESDAY, APRIL 26, 2005 LOCAL NEWS THE ENQUIRER Lives remembered Margo Skinner acted in New York Middletown native toured nationally By Rebecca Goodman Enquirer staff writer Actress Margo Skinner was the only cast member to receive applause as she left the stage at the Manhattan Theatre Club on April 10. She had played Miss Poppenghul secretary to David O. Selznick in Ron Hutchinson's "Moonlight and Magnolias," a play about the writing of the movie "Gone With The Wind." Ms. Skinner was found dead in her New York apartment the following morning. She suffered a heart attack and likely died her sleep.

The Middletown native was 55. A working actress with solid credentials, she was "not famous, but respected," said her sister, Sarah Skinner of Montgomery. Ms. Skinner "She lived the way she Ms. Skinner wanted to.

She was a fun, lively, cute Born in Middletown on Jan. 3, 1950, Ms. Skinner was the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Calvin Skinner.

She graduated from Hillsdale School and received a bachelor's degree from Boston University. She was a friend of Ed Stern, producing artistic director at Playhouse the Park. "One of my first shows at Playhouse in the Park was a play called 'Scotland Stern said. "It was a play that we premiered here. She played the doctorDr.

Halbrech and the show was a terrific success. A great reason for the success of the play was Margo's performance. Margo had a voice that was so singular and unique you wanted to watch and listen to her. You just knew there was life experience and energy and incredible life force in that human being on stage. "Margo was a total delight.

She was so easy to work with and a wonder. I'm going to miss that voice. She was special." Ms. Skinner was in the national tour of "Titanic" and a pre tour of "I Never Sang for My Father." OffBroadway, she was in "The Perfect Party" and "The Dining Room" and in the original production of Craig Lucas' "Blue Window." She also acted in regional theaters. She recently played Martha in "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta.

She played at the Guthrie in Minneapolis, Cleveland Play House, Actors Theatre of Louisville, Williamstown Theatre and Pittsburgh Public. For eight years she was a member of Trinity Square Theater in Providence, R.I. She appeared in the TV series "Law and Order" and several movies. In addition to her sister Sarah, survivors include her companion, Andrew Macagnone; and another sister, Susan- nah Kelly. E-mail Board checking deal with firm that aided Petro The Associated Press COLUMBUS A state board on Monday delayed approving Attorney General Jim Petro's request for $1.2 million in private attorney contracts, including almost $600,000 to a firm that contributed to Petro's gubernatorial campaign.

The Controlling Board put off action on three contracts, including $590,000 for Columbus-based Porter, Wright, Morris and Arthur. Porter, Wright has contributed about $68,000 to Petro, about half collected during a single January fund-raising party hosted by Porter, Wright partners, the Columbus Dispatch reported Monday. Almost 100 of the firm's attorneys in six offices gave to Petro, often under $100, the threshold at which campaigns are required to report the contributor's employer, the Dispatch reported. Senate Finance Chairman John Carey, a Republican from Wellston in southeastern Ohio, said the board's decision to delay the contracts was not related to the report. Petro spokeswoman Kim Norris said the office hires outside attorneys at the request of state agencies who say they need the expertise.

The work that Porter, Wright is being hired to do was previously handled by state attorneys, but the Department of Commerce requested the outside lawyers. The work involves several complaints against a suburban Cleveland credit union. Funerals The funeral directory lists services from current death notices published in The Cincinnati Enquirer and Post.
