Tior- bury home on Maple avenue caught on fire Wednesday afternoon from an overheated electric Iron which had been forgotten. The fire put out by the firemen much damage was done.

While the river is running, the creeks around are not, and few of the ponds have enough water in them for cattle water and the pumps on the river are being kept busy pumping for the water haulers. HASSMAN-RINARU. Special to The Gtrettc: Americus, Sept. and Mrs. Fred Hassman, of Americus, announce the marriage of their daughter, Hilda M. Hassman, to Earl D.

Rinard, of Chanute. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Gene Frank, of Americus, at his home Sunday afternoon at 1 o'clock. Following the ceremony a reception was held at the home of the bride's parents. Twenty-seven relatives and friends were present.

Mi's. Rinard is the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hassman and a graduate of the Americus High school In the class of 1931. Mr.

Rinard is the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Rinard, of Cherryvale.

He attended business college in Wichita in 1926. He is a barber in the Oriental Barber shop at Chanute. The couple will be at home after September 22 at 409 Stuben street, Chanute. HARTFORD P. T.

Lucy Pennybaker went to Hartfuid Monday, to spend a few days with her niece, Mrs. Karl Bingham, and family. Mr. and Mrs. Asa Meek were in Burlington Monday.

Mrs. Cora Cummins was in Burlington Monday. Rev. and Mrs. O.

E. Brown, of Quincy, called on J. T. Heflin and Miss Nora Heflin Monday afternoon. Mr.

Student Council elections at Beading High school Tuesday proved to be more or less of a landslide for the Liberty party which placed candidates in six of I'- offices. the first time In the history c. council, the elections were conducted along party lines. Parties were organized and submitted a list of candidates last Tuesday afternoon, the first three parties to announce constituting the ticket. Monday afternoon was devoted to campaign speeches.

Robert Southard visited the latter part of the week in Topeka with Mr. Southard's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. O.
