The Taylor Creek resident was 75. In 1960, the Taylor Creek Organization began with the conversion of a cornfield into a baseball field. Mr. Siegert was named the first president of the organization. "He worked really hard to get the job done.

He did it all," said William Muth of Taylor Creek, a volunteer member. Mr. Siegert and his wife were inducted into the Taylor Creek Youth Organization Hall of Fame Dec. 11, 1994. Beginning in the late 1940s, Mr.

The 57-year-old grandmother, who pleaded guilty for her part in embezzling $247,826 from the Netherland Terrace Federal Credit Union, has been given six months to a year to live. The mother of four and grandmother of seven has cancer. U.S. District Judge S.

Arthur Spiegel ordered Strub's release Tuesday, saying it was "in the interest of justice and humanity." Spiegel sentenced the former Harrison resident in May to 41 months in prison after she confessed to one count of a 28-count indictment. Her terminal condition comes as another sad blow to her children, who after 14 years got to see their mother only after FBI agents discovered her destitute and living in a shack near New Orleans. Strub's grandchildren the oldest 12 never knew her. Her husband, Earl, after 25 years of marriage, never remarried. Strub's son, Darren, 29, said he is not sure the grandchildren would understand the circumstances surrounding their grandmother.

Earlier this year, Strub spent much of her time while awaiting sentencing at her son's home, catching up on the years she was apart from her family. Her freedom, son Darren said, will allow her to continue to learn of the family she left behind. "It's just like before," said Darren, of Butler County. "There's a lot of catching up to do. We did some when she was brought back before.

I guess we'll continue to catch up. "We're just working out the details to AndersonMl. Washington Rohde Kelsch 231-3737 T.P. Doctors have diagnosed her with a recurrence of cancer, Johnson said. She is also suffering from kidney failure because of bladder cancer, which could lead to her death in less than six months, Johnson said.

Johnson said he filed a motion for a reduced sentence immediately after he learned of Strub's illness. Johnson, reached Tuesday night, praised Spiegel's decision. "It's a sad case. I don't believe there's anyone I've ever come into contact with in this case who objects to her release." The U.S. attorney's office did not object to the motion to reduce her sentence.

Strub walked away from the federally insured Netherland Terrance Credit Union, where she was treasurer, when an auditor arrived one day in 1980. Thousands of dollars disappeared from the credit union while she was treasurer during the late 1970s and early 1980s. When federal agents arrested her Dec. 2, 1994, near New Orleans, she initially denied bilking her former employer by altering vouchers and journal entries. 921-011) Hyde Park Elden A.

Jason Robb was sentenced to death in May for his role in Vallandingham's death. Other trials are pending. Robb, along with Carlos Sanders and George Skatzes, was charged as a conspirator in the slaying. Prosecutors said the three, all leaders of the riot, planned but did not carry out the killing. Prosecutors said Law, James Were and a third inmate who has not been charged used either a baseball bat or a weight bar to crush Vallandingham's neck.

To support their case, prosecutors pre dence." Knight said prosecutors offered to let Law plead guilty to a reduced charge of murder before the trial, but he said Law would not plead to anything that carried a life sentence. Murder is punishable by life in prison without parole for 15 years. Knight said he plans to appeal the kidnapping conviction because he doesn't think Law is guilty. He said Law was standing nearby when other inmates snatched Vallandingham. Law, he said, did participate in the capture of the officer.

sented testimony from three inmates, including Alvin Jones, who remains under investigation but has not been indicted. Prosecutors said Jones may have been involved in Vallandingham's death. In a statement to investigators last year, Law blamed Jones for the guard's death. But Jones said Law was responsible. "They have to have proof that he was involved, more than just an inmate saying he was," said defense attorney Chuck Knight, who presented no witnesses and no evidence during the weeklong trial.

"The state, with all its resources and all its witnesses, just had no physical evi the kidnapping in hand, and we're still wide open on the aggravated murder." Piepmeier said Law was "probably the toughest case we've had." Of the 50 inmates indicted on riot-related charges, 37 have been convicted. Two juries, Law's included, were unable to reach a verdict. And two inmates have been acquitted, one of kidnapping and the other of assault. Law was one of five inmates facing the death penalty foV the slaying of Vallan- our feet, we get knocked back down again." Tuesday's mistrial was only the fourth time a jury in a Lucasville-related case has not returned a verdict favorable to the prosecution. And Law's case is by far the biggest setback for the state.

"We're glad we got what we got," Special Prosecutor Mark Piepmeier said. "I don't consider this" 'a big loss. We got.
