Ex-cop charged in shooting Need A Vacation Fleeing victim was shot in back The Associated Press COLUMBUS A Franklin County grand jury on Friday indicted a former suburban Columbus police officer accused of shooting an unarmed man in the back. Willis Kirkbride 28, a former Upper Arlington officer, was charged with one count of attempted murder and two counts of felonious assault, County Prosecutor Ron O'Brien said.

Mr. Kirkbride is to be arraigned in Franklin County Common Pleas Court on March 27. Mr. Kirkbride allegedly shot Mark Gosnell, 22, of Columbus outside an Upper Arlington gas station on Jan. 29.

Witnesses told police Mr. Kirkbride, Mr. Gosnell and another person were arguing at the station after leaving a Columbus bar when Mr. Gosnell was shot as he turned to run from Mr. Kirkbride.

Mr. Kirkbride had agreed to surrender to police two days after the shooting, but instead fled to Carmel, where he was picked up on Jan. 31. He was fired from the Upper Arlington Police Department shortly afterward. Mr.

Gosnell was released from a Columbus hospital two days after being shot. Find your dream place to stay in our travel and resort places for rent. Classified works for you every day of the week Call Classified 421-6300.
