contributions may be sent loss of his U.S. citizenship as an accused Nazi death camp guard, to disclose the transcript of an interview with a possible eyewitness. The order from U.S. District Judge Paul Matia covers an interview with camp guard Nikolai Malagon, who in the late 1970s told Soviet authorities he had a fleeting memory of a "Demedyuk or Deman-yuk" who worked as a cook at the Treblinka camp. Judges in Israel previously ruled the materials are protected by client-attorney privilege.

Mr. Demjanjuk, 80, a retired autoworker from nearby Seven Hills, was convicted but later cleared in Israel of charges that he was the sadistic Nazi death camp guard known as "Ivan the Terrible." Mr. Demjanjuk's U.S. attorney, Michael Tigar, filed an appeal this week with the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati.

He said Judge Matia's ruling failed to recognize the Israeli court decision. The Justice Department wants to revoke Mr. Demjanjuk's citizenship because he allegedly failed to disclose a past as a Nazi camp guard. Washington 231-7150 Democratic caucus, and has yet to reach an accommodation with majority Republicans. Republicans have given every indication that they want to reward Mr. Traficant, who declared that GOP Rep. Dennis Hastert deserved to remain speaker of the House and then voted to keep him in the job. "I'm sure we will find something for him," said Majority Leader Dick Armey, R-Texas.

"He's a member of the House and he deserves a committee assignment." As the House left town for the Presidents Day recess, Mr. Hastert had cleared a Republican seat on the Transportation Committee, and was waiting for Mr. Traficant to say he wants it. According to John Feehery, a spokesman for Mr. Hastert, majority Republicans haven't heard from Mr.

Traficant since his lim By Katherine Rizzo The Associated Press WASHINGTON Ohio's Jim Traficant has a rare place in the history of the House of Representatives. He's the first rank-and-file congressman since 1905 to start a session with no committee assignment. The top House leaders don't get assignments because their jobs are plenty busy without committee work. Unlike long-ago Rep. Claude A.

Swanson, though, Mr. Traficant has some prospects, which he's been mulling for months. Mr. Swanson didn't get a committee assignment because he had been elected governor of Virginia and was preparing to leave the House. Mr.

Traficant lacks an assignment because he snubbed his party, was thrown out of the Lenora, Mary, Laura, Janet, Carol and the late Rick bo began. Leadership is eager to know whether Mr. Traficant will accept an official designation of "independent" instead of what he; has been calling himself: "an independent Democrat." "There's no precedent for a Democrat being named to a committee by a Republican or vice versa," Mr. Feehery said. "We're struggling with that." Rep.

John Boehner, R-Ohio, of West Chester Township, said that might not be too big a stumbling block: "I think everybody who knows Jim would say he's independent." Except for praising Mr. Hastert as deserving of the speakership, Mr. Traficant hasn't said much about his unusual status, though he has joked that "I'll convene my own little caucus in a phone booth." day at 10:30 A.M.
