COMMUNITY FRIDAY, JUNE 16,2006 Two students receive young parent scholarship for $500 Recently the Community Foundation of Mendocino County announced that two students from the Mendocino Courtly Office of Education's Young Parent Program at Ukiah High School have each received a $500 Young Parent Scholarship. According to Susanne Norgard from the Community Foundation of Mendocino County "Dr. William Waring created this Scholarship Fund to-provide an annual scholarship to a graduate of the Young'Parent Program at Ukiah High School in order to pay for books and tuition at an accredited college or university within the State of California." Jeanne Metcalf, instructor of the Young Parent Program was thrilled to state that Amanda Boyce and Danielle Fransen were each awarded a $500.00 scholarship. Fransen plans to attend the San Francisco Art Institute and Boyce will begin her studies at Mendocino College in the fall. The Young Parent Program is funded by California School Age Families Education (Cal-SAFE) and provides academic and child services to pregnant and parenting teens in order to help them successfully complete their high school education.

The Young Parent Program has been in operation at Ukiah High School for over 20 years and an average of 10 students graduate per year with their high school diploma. A variety of education and services are available to students with i being placed on preparation for childbirth and parenting, connections with health and social services providers and family education and counseling. A total of 4,363 students who have completed work toward a degree during the 2005-06, academic year are eligible to participate in the spring which begin at 12:30 p.m., on Saturday, June 17 at McArthuf Court, 1601 University St.

'No tickets are required, and doors will open at 10:30 a.m. President Dave Frohnmayier Will preside over the university- wide exercises and also will present the university's 2006 Distinguished Service Awards and Presidential Medals. Recipients of several distinguished teaching awards for faculty members also will be recognized. Seating in McArthur Court will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Graduating students will sit on the main floor and guests will sit in the balconies.

Limited seating will be available on the main floor on the east side of McArthur Court for those wheelchairs of with other special mobility needs. A sign language interpreter will be present. Guests with impaired hearing may wish to sit in the first few rows of the southwest stands closest speaker's platform. individuals planning to attend commencement are advised to arrive early, as campus parking is very limited. Free parking will be available hi lots located at -East 15th Avenue and Columbia Street, and East 14th Avenue and Kincaid Street, as well as at specially marked parking meters at the edge of campus.

Tylefr Guiyas makes dean's list at University of Portland Tyler Guiyas of Ukiah, is listed on the 2006 spring semester dean's list at the University of Portland. Students need, at least a 3.5 grade point average to make the dean's list.

Guiyas is a sophomore and majoring in history. Wilkes Two twin daughters, Kamryn Lea Wilkes and Kara Justine Wilkes, were born Monday, June 5, 2006, to Chris and Jaime Wilkes of Willits. Kamryn Lea weighed 5 pounds, 10 ounces, Kara Justine weighed 4 pounds, 8 ounces. Their grandparents are Debbie and John Bixler, George and Tracy Wilkes, and John and Roni McFadden, all of Willits. Waddington A baby son, Kolton Waddington was born Tuesday, May 30, 2006, to Jaime Waddington and Don Waddington, of Ukiah.

He" weighed 7 pounds, 14 ounces. His grandparents are Dayle and Donna Waddington, of Ukiah, and Lydia and Alan McGovern, of Santa Rosa, and Wayrte Hunt, of Ukiah. Marizette A baby son, Lovell Avery Marizette, was born Saturday, June 3, 2006, to Pauline Marizette and Odis Marizette, of Ukiah. He weighed 7 pounds, 15 ounces. His grandparent is Odis Marizette, and his great-grandmother is Char Ray, of Ukiah.

Billiard A baby son, Gavin Joshua Hilliard, was born Sunday, June 4, 2006,. to and Joshua-Hilliard of Ukjah. He weighed 6 ounces. His grandparents are Dan and Michele Hilliard and Alan and Cici Schulz. Rios A'baby girl, A-ny-ya Rose Rios born May 27, 2006 to' Shannon and Sesario Rios of Ukiah.

She Weighed 4 7 ounces, and was 18 inches long. The new baby is also welcomed by her older siblings Alyza Rios, Angelo Rios, Tearlyn Katz all of Ukiah. Her grandparents Pam and Mike Fox of Nevada, Deanna arid Chris Campbell and Steve Barry, all of Redwood Valley. Williams A baby son, Nathan Gary Williams, was born Saturday, June 3, 2006, to'Sarah Williams and Robert Williams', of Redwood- Valley. He weighed 7 pounds, 11 ounces and was 20 inches long.

His grandparents are Joan Kostove of Redwood Valley, Debi Ginochio of Odessa, Texas and Steve Kostove and fiancee Cynthia Miller of Cobb, Calif. Great grandparents are Evelyn Kostove of Ukiah and George'and Mercy Ginochio, also of Ukiah. Janae Ann Winchester and Robert Kenneth "Bubba" Klrby Winchester-JCirby Janae Ann Winchester and Robert Kenneth "Bubba" Kirby announce their engagement to marry July 29, 2006 in Santa Cruz. The bride-to-be is the daughter, qf Carolyn and Paiil Winchester, of Vallejo. She graduated frorn VftlJejo High School in 2003, and is attending Betthany University in Scptt's Valley, where she is studying social science.
