Enquirer news services ABBY VAN BUREN She got tough, pie helped out t DEAR ABBY: Your advice to "Jill and Jane" about sitting down with their husbands and explaining Tthat they had neither the time nor energy to do all the work around ;the house was somewhat glib. Granted, there are women out there who don't speak up they enjoy being martyrs but you Jcnow what? There are men out here who still believe that they need not be responsible for anything except the lawn mower. I I solved that problem with my husband of 30 years, who had never lifted a finger to help me. After a particularly exhausting day and fighting with him at night because he wouldn't help me, I turned to him and quietly said, "I did not sign on to be your mother Or your maid. I am sick of you as a Eerson. You no longer have my ve or respect. I want a divorce. Jurtherpiore, you can leave right now start packing!" 1 He knew I meant it, so he packed up and left. It was a month before I heard from him again. He had gone to live with his sister, and after two weeks at his sister's, HE told him to get out. Another month passed. He began calling and asking if we could talk. He came over, and gone was he "attitude" and the arrogant Jwagger. I laid down the ground rules and told him I wouldn't consider taking him back until we saw a counselor and resolved some serious issues. A year later, we are back together, but it took some real tough love. NO MORE BULL I DEAR NO MORE BULL: Thanks for a valuable letter. Successful marriages are those in which both partners work at nur-uring each other. And marriage counseling works best when the husband and wife commit themselves to doing whatever is necessary to save their marriage. t DEAR ABBY: I went to dinner recently with my boyfriend at the home of a couple we both know and like very much. Abby, I felt very uncomfortable when they prepared to say grace before the meal and everyone clasped hands. I told the hostess as she reached for my hand that saying grace before dinner and particularly holding hands was not my style. She grabbed my hand anyway and made me part of the circle. Shouldn't the hostess have understood that I didn't want to take part and simply let me sit quietly at the table? If her tradition is more important than the comfort of her guest, I will avoid going to dinner. OUT OF THE LOOP IN CHARLESTON, W.VA. DEAR OUT OF THE LOOP: Perhaps she should have. But it's possible that the couple are deeply religious. Since you were a guest, you did the correct thing in holding hands in prayer. However, feeling as strongly as you do, you are under no obligation to accept another dinner invitation. DEAR ABBY: Recently a 13-year-old girl wrote to you and said she was in love with a boy, and her parents had forbidden her to see him. Your advice to her was to honor her parents' wishes. I don't agree with this. You are not taking the girl seriously because you think she is not old enough for love. Abby, many 13-year-olds are capable of experiencing "first love." If you remember, Romeo and Juliet were very young. The parents, ignoring the young lovers' feelings, indirectly drove the two together and caused a catastrophe. When teen-agers are forbidden to do something, you can bet they will try anything to do it. ANOTHER JULIET DEAR ANOTHER JULIET: You weren't the only one who disagreed with my advice. Read on: DEAR ABBY: Your advice to "Forbidden Love" stunk or should I say "stank"? Anyway, stunk or stank, it sure wasn't much help to a 13-year-old girl. Abby, can't you remember when you were 13? I'll bet nobody could tell you anything either. Give me a break and get real. ANNA MARIE IN LOUISIANA Write to Dear Abby at P.O.
