Conway, Garrigan Is i Native Of New School's Area Father Fra'ncis Conway, Superintendent of the new Garrigan high school, located on a 4'5 acre tract of land in northeast Algona, came to Algona in the summer of 1957 from Sioux City. He was named to the post here by Bishop Joseph M. Mueller of Sioux City. Father Conway is not new to this area. He attended St.

Ellen's school at Emmetsburg and graduated from Presentation Academy at Whittemore in 1936. He is a son of Mr and Mrs J. W. Conway of Cylinder. He attended Emmetsburg Junior College for'two years, then Trinity College, Sioux City, for two years before taking his theological work at Kenrick Seminary, St.

Louis. Postgraduate wo'rk at Creighton Omaha, preceded his graduation from Catholic University of America, D. where he received his M.A. degree. 'He served Heelan 'high school at Sioux City for eight years before his appointment here, anc assistant principal the last three years at that school.

Father Conway served as assistant priest for the parish at Whittemore then as priest at St. Benedict, after his arrival here, and had been active handling many of the matters concerned with the building.of the new school. He is an avid sports fan and will undoubtedly be seen at al of the Garrigan events here each year. His office is located near the entrance inside the new school. In the above photo Father Conway, in his office contemplates with zestful energy, his new assignment and the prospects ol helping to bring an improved educational program to the parishes connected with the new Garrigan High.

No Candy Or Gum But Commissary Carries Supplies A school commissary is located near the main lobby entrance to Garrigan high. But it does not sell candy or gum. In fact both candy and gum within the building are banned, at least in classrooms. The commissary will handle small supplies and school necessities such as students might need in a hurry, from time to time, and will be open at designated times for student convenience. Big Parking Area For Cars Students are not permitted to leave the school grounds without a written note from the parents requesting permission for the stu- derft to attend to some business in town.

Cars that are driven to school by the students rrtay be parked in the parking area in front of the school or in the parking lot on the South side of the school when the parking lot is completed. These cars are to remain there until the end of the school day. Neither may the students take them to go anywhere without permission of parents and Superintendent, nor may students even occupy these cars at anytime during the day. School Library Can Handle 5,000 Volumes The heart of many a school might be called its library. In the case of Garrigan High, the library enjoys a well located central position in the'school planning, with ample natural lighting and shelves that can hold about books.

In the library itself there is seating for 60 pupils at one time, with a number of lonp study tables also available. At the front of the library is a checkout counter and reserve book shelf space, while smaller supply library is tg the serve book space.
