Turnbow, 18, died Saturday at Drake Center, where he had spent most of his time since being shot in the head Feb. 20, 1990. An autopsy revealed Turnbow's death was caused by complications from the shocting, said Dr. Frank Cleveland, Hamilton County coroner. Prosecutors likely will seek a murder indictment from a grand jury within two weeks, said Terry Gaines, first assistant Hamilton County prosecutor. Turnbow was shot after he left school and stood in a crowd gathered to watch a fight across the street. Swan, who later said he was protecting his brother, fired a shot at another youth, who pulled Turnbow in front of him and into the path of the bullet. Turnbow was paralyzed from the neck down and spent most of the rest of his life in rehabilitation at Drake. Swan, 19, was sentenced in August, 1990, to 8-15 years in prison for felonious assault and another term of 7-25 years for attempted murder. Turnbow experienced a sudden irregular heartbeat and drop in blood pressure during his regular morning care Saturday at Drake. Doctors and the hospital emergency resuscitation team tried to save him, but he died at 11:57 a.m. Services for Turnbow will be Thursday.
