Their work is otten so hard and conlin-in? that the health breaks J.wn. T heir delicate consjitutions are unfitted for tiresome tasks. Weaknes's nearly aKv is makes its appearance in the peculiarly delicate woman I v irians. Constant standing on the feet, and coming and ont at the heck of a superintendent or foreman, induces falling of the w nil leucorrlu ea, headache and backache. The pay of women workers is ollen so noti irinuslv small that when sickness comes they have no nvnev to encage skillril physicians. To them Wine him an appropriate name. He had a map ui me luiuury oerore mm. Lolo- raao was-me nrst name suggested, but Douglas replied. T have selected that name for this one pointing on the map to the now state of olorado. I wanted a name for a territory I mi going to mark out here in the mountains." "Denver's life in the west and service in the Mexican war made him familiar with many Spanish w ords( anil he remarked, 'Why not all it Montana?' w-L ' Douglas immediately said, "What does it mean?' "Denver replied: 'It is a Spanish word, and means a mountainous country.' "Douglas' wife was 01113 of the most noted linguists of the capital, and he, doubting Denver's knowledge of Spanish, walked out into the call and called to his wife, who was upstairs: 'My dear, lo you know any such word s "Montana?" ' to which she readily replied, 'It is a Spanish word and means a mountainous country.' "Douglas returned and said: 'Governor, it's just the word, and I will adopt it.' "A bill followed in a few days in which 'Montana' appeared. The bill did not pass at that time, and, if I correctly remember the story, not in the life time of Douglas, but the name stuck, and from that incident Montana got its name. ' General Denver was .1 very modest man, md rarely, even to intimate friends, spoke of events with which he was connected, and, as he is now dead, I may be the only person who knows of this incident. I have given it as related to me by the general.'' TROOP A. 1'. S. V., ATTENTION. The meeting trilled for the ex-members of Troop A, Third lT. S. Y. Denver, in Washington, D. C, and also occupied the position of confidential clerk to him," said F. M. Cleven-ger. "During a conversation between us about Montana territory, the general taked me if I knew hom thd territory got Its name. I answered in the negative, and he remarked: 'I am the only person living who knows,' and be proceeded In his modest way to re late the incident to me. "Denver had been the much-beloved territorial governor of Kansas, which at that time included the great part, if not all, of the present state of Colorado. He was very ntlmate with Stephen A. Douglas. I cannot remem-the exact tlmo of this Incident as Jiven me by Gen. Denver, but It was ifier Denver had been governor of K" territory, and before Douglas ed to be a senator.' Douglas sent r Denver to come to his house, which ru ia Washington, both being there toe time. ' , . ;vt'.."
