Broadbent hap py at the increased Com mons representation gained by his party in federal election went home Tuesday night still keeping secret how he will act in a minority Commons run by Conservative Joe Clark Broadbent called a brief late night news conference after it was clear that Prime Minister Trudeau had con ceded the election to Clark but said little but that his party would to fight for its programs New Democrats appeared to feel that they would not hold the power they expected to hold after Tuesday's voting because Clark ended only a handful of seats short of a majority The news conference was called in a room away from a campaign headquarters that had been left in a mess after hours of drinking and dancing by celebrating New Democrats Broadbent whose forces won 26 seats compared with 17 when the Commons was dissolved for the election call March 26 said he was delighted with his party's performance The NDP's popularity had increased faster than the vic torious
