7th Hollywood. One girl in Holly, wood, it frequently happens, maj be two other people. And by the same token, a may be somebody else. Names to moss people are tags they keep from cradle to grave. To Hollywood, however, names are toys A beauty who has no need of face- lifting often isn't happy until her name has been completely revised.

A girl does not have to go to the altar to drop her former cognomen. All she has to do is tell the world. And sometimes she has it done for her whether she thinks it Is a good idea or not. Ann Sheridan, who is beginning to draw good parts, is one actress who has been two other people. Born Clara Lou Sheridan, she was "changed" by studio bosses to plain Lou Sheridan, but ere long they had decided on Ann.

STAGE PLAYEES, TOO. Players who have established themselves on screen or stage do not often go in for name-bobbing, but it sometimes happen. Douglass Montgomery of the stage became Kent Douglass of the films, but when he returned to Hollywood, it was as Douglass Montgomery, his real name. The "Kent Douglass" had been wished on him by M. When he -returned this time, executives decided Walter Woolf was not romantic enough for the parts they mean to give him, so now he is Walter King. The heroine of "Anne of Green Gables 1 knows three names, she was christened Dawn Paris. Her mother, for screen purposes, decided on Dawn O'Day.

But now It's Anne Shirley, the same as the Green Gables girl. HELEN INTO JUDITH. Helen Johnson had featured roles in several M. G. M.

films, but when she went to Paramount they billed her as Judith Wood, and Wood it still is. Thelma Todd was one Loyd, but she was too well known as Thelma Todd to have it make much difference. She ES Todd again in her next film. The swimming youth brought his nickname "Buster" to "King of the Jungle, 1 but in recent months he has been Larry effort to dissociate him from strictly athletic roles.
