Hiricbter, HW THE CITY CLUB'S GIFT IS CHRISTMAS PROGRAM being completed for the Christmas program sponsored by the Wtomen's City club which to be be given Sunday night, December 18, In the Lowther Junior high school. It has been an annual custom for the City club to plan a Christian party or program. This year, for the first time, program which the -whole community will enjoy Is being presented as a Christmas gift to the public P.

V. Wakeland, teacher of voice at the Teachers College, who direc- 6d the combined choir Easter concert which the City club sponsored last year, was asked to plan this Christmas program. He Is collaborating with T. L. OUson, head of the college dramatic department in working out a unified story ol the birth of Christ to be presented with combined music and tableau.

Edith Bunch, supervisor of music in the city grade schools, Is training a chorus of 75 children to sing some carols in the program The Teachers College Treble Clef club, directed by Miss Catherine Strouse, will sing the Angel choir music. E. B. Steg is in charge of brass quartet which will assist and Virgil Person Is coaching a string quartet which will have an important part in the production. Mr.

Oilson is using experienced dramatic performers, elaborate settings and costumes in the four tableau vlvant (tableau with movement) scenes which he is creating. Christmas carols will be played and sung which have been carefully chosen to correspond with, and make a background for, the stage pictures. Many of the more familiar carols be used. Several rare old carols which were secured in Chicago last rummer especially for this program wili delight music lovers. The various choir directors and singers of Emporia are cooperating enthusiastically in the carol singing choruses and the undertaking promises to be one of the most beautiful and impressive that Emporians have en- Joyed.

A "White Elephant" Christmas. A "while elephant" gift exchange be the feature of the all- church social to be held Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock In the First Presbyterian churr.h parlors. The women of Circle No. 2 are hostsfses and request that the guests bring their "white elephants" wrapped. Members of the drama department of the Emporia branch of the American Association of University Women will meet tonight at 7:30 o'clock with Mrs.

HM Christmas Dinner. Sixty-two members of the Emporia branch the American Association of University Women attended Christmas dinner given dn the College Coffee shop at the Teachers College Saturday evening. Dr. H. t.

Alhnrf thP Collcpe was practically filled Saturday night with Emporians who went to hear the All-Kansas band. Approximately 1,500 persons heard the band, under the direction of Albert A. Harding and George Wilson. The band gave a finished performance and greatly its audience. Several times the applause at the end of a number was so great the director was forced to give an encore.

At the close of the performance, Mr. Harding directed as an encore, "El by Sousa, one of the most popular American marches, and certainly the high spot of the program Saturday night. For many years Mr. Harding has been the director of the band at th University of Illinois, and one of th outstanding directors in the coun try. George Wilson, of the Teacher College music department, was re sponsible for the gathering of th expert musicians from all parts Kansas, and for bringing Mr.
