uninspiring word to most people ancbdenotes a dull to pic something most people study briefly in high school and quickly forget: The word conjures up visions of brushing teeth regularly getting eye check ups and waiting impat iently in a waiting room for treatment of persistent cough But the word means much more to physicians and health officials It means the growing need for nursing homes which can care for the aged and infirm It means a frustrating search for funds needed for jjew public health facilities and services and for the best methods of utilizing the funds which are available It means rising problems pos ed by rural real estate develop ments plagued by inadequate wat er and sewage systems It means air pollution water pol lution the shortage of nurses health aides technicians That is what is all about the authorities say and that is what a meeting last week of Highland County health and med ical officials was all about Ae and stolen the calves from a field and a shed Investigation in the case is being continued the sheriff said ORTOU T5 health problems' in general and on qualification for federal money specifically He urged county residents to at tend the Chillicothe meeting in form themselves on the matter and offer their' opinions He especially urged city and county office hold ers to attend along with physi cians and others working with health needs and desires by taking an in terest in the crucial meeting now being planned A COUNTY MAN received mi nor cuts and bruises in a one car accident on Rt 62 15 miles south of Hillsboro Sunday at 8:10 This involved a southbound 1956 ord sedan driven by Kenneth Ballein 25 Hillsboro Rt 7 He went off on the right side of the road on a curve to the left He lost control and the car swung back across the highway and off the left side and hit a telephone pole Jt swung back on the road again and rolled oyer on its side in the road i Ballein was cited for speed ex cessive for road conditions Answer Two ire Calls on Sunday Hillsboro firemen answered calls Sunday: The first was at 12:45 A car owned by Charles Ruggles caught fire brief ly when a cigaret lighter shorted out There was no loss drawdown Removal of boats will be neces sary as work is to be done on re taining walls on all three marinas during the coming months 'This will necessitate the removal of the state docks consequently all boats must be removed Cluster dock owners are also re quested to remove their boats as repairs must be made to the metal docks in piling Boats left docked after Nov 1 will be removed by park moderate damage to the ul ton car heavy damage to the Lawhorn vehicle and slight dam age to the ord ulton was cited for failure to yield the right of way THERE WAS another wreck at Sinking Spring on SR 41 Sunday at 2:15 This occurred' in the vil lage just north of the intersection of SR 41 and SR 124 This involved a 1968 Lincoln Continental driven by Glenn Thompson 38 Gallipolis and a 1968 Chevrolet driven by Ray Crum 79 Hillsboro Rt 6 The patrol said the Crum car pulled out of an alley into the path of the northbound Thompson car Mrs ay Thompson also of Gal lipolis a passenger in her hus car had injur ies but did not require immediate treatment There was moderate damage to both cars Crum was cited for fail ure to yield from an alley SUNDAY at 5:35 there was a two car accident on SR 136 just north of Sugartree Ridge This involved a northbound 1961 Buick sedan driven by Samuel Grisham 19 airborn Rt 1 and a southbound 1967 ord driven by Vilnis Blackins 28 Xenia Rt 5 The patrol said that the cars sideswiped just as Grisham pulled out to pass another northbound car and as Blackins pulled out of an other road and started south Grisham was cited for left of center There were no injuries in this one Scene of the mishap was 25 miles south of the SR 136 in tersection with Rt 62 Beltz Will ill Vacant Board Spot The Adams County hoard of Ed ucation Thas voted to accept the transfer of the old Sinking Spring School District effective June 30 1969 This was reported to members of the Highland County Board of Education at a regular monthly meeting Thursday night The Adams board took the ac tion at a meeting on Sept 17 The Sinking Spring area will actually be transferred to the Peebles School District At the sam6 time the county board was advised that the Hills boro District had rejected for the second time transfer of the Car mel area to Hillsboro Both transfers had been effected by the county board back on Aug 30 In other matters the board fill ed a vacancy on the board by ap pointing Vernon Beltz Mowrys town to fill the seat vacated by Glenn Hastings proper ty was among those transferred to Hillsboro from the Berrysville area recently Beltz previously served two hitches on the board totaling about seven years first from 1957 to 1960 and again from 1963 to 1966 He will serve the remainder of Hast unexpired term Board Presi dent Davis swore in Beltz Home Damaged By Vandalism Early Saturday David Brown Bainbridge re ported considerable damage to his home on Seven Caves Road result ed from vandalism early Saturday He made the report to the county our own back yard Charles Harsha of Hills Harsha Monument Co said this week: The memorial was erected to George Dunn (1871 1916) and is located in the Catholic Cemetery here The design is in the form of a tool chest complete with han dies on each side and a lock on the lid The front is decorated with 'a spread eagle perched on three logs On the top are the working tools of a stone mason: Wooden limestone Harsha said The story behind the monument is as interesting as the memorial itself It was carved by Thomas Henley who died eb 20 1968 at the age of 82 name appears in the inscription in the side of the cover and Erected by Thos widow says her late husband was a nephew of George Dunn Prior to World War I un cle and nephew traveled together on construction jobs in Pennsyl vania Tennessee and Georgia pursuing their joint trade as stone masons Between the construction jobs they would take employment in local monument shops As they traveled together they made a pact that the survivor would erect a suitable memorial to the deceased member It was in keeping this agreement that Henley fabricated the monument a short time following death A small marker stands in front of thp tool box to further identify George Dunn Pvt 2 January 28 A bronze flag holder carries the American flag The sculptor Thomas Henley was a veteran of World War I ollowing his death and his own terms of military
