so survived by tive grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Died BY JUDY ASHTON The Cincinnati Enquirer George Sampson, a chef and restaurant entrepreneur, did not attend school to learn his trade. He learned by watching others at the former Model Lunch Restaurant, his uncle's restaurant, where he worked as a dishwasher. It was at 12th and Walnut streets in Cincinnati where his fascination for cooking developed into a career that spanned 40 years. Mr.

Sampson, 71, died of complications from diabetes Wednesday at Good Samaritan Hospital. The longtime Clifton resident came to the United States in 1946 from Greece. During the 1940s, Mr. Sampson was a chef at the Netherland Plaza Hotel, the Lookout House, the DRIGGERS, Rev. Morris E.

Beverly Hills Supper Club and the Latin Quarter. "He was a gourmet chef; he loved cooking," said Angeline Christofield Sampson, his wife of 41 years. "He was very meticulous in his cooking, the preparation and the finished product." He later became co-owner and owner of several restaurants, including the Brass Rail Restaurant and Cocktail Lounge in Middle-town; Capri Dining Room and Lounge and Anthony Wayne Hotel Restaurant and Lounge, both in Hamilton; and Ramey's Cafeteria in Covington. He had also been a chef at Jeckle's in Hyde Park and had worked as a chef part time at the Corinthian Restaurant in Clifton before his retirement in 1986. Mr.

Sampson shared his talent with his family. He often prepared fancy dishes for special holidays, a treat everyone in the family looked forward to, his wife said. He also gave cooking demonstrations at the downtown Lazarus store and collected gourmet magazines so he could try new recipes. He was a longtime member of Holy Trinity-St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church.

Also surviving are four sons, John of Clifton, Anthony of Cheviot, Michael of Madeira and Nicholas of Harrison; four grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren. There will be a service at 10:30 a.m. today at Holy Trinity-St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 7000 Winton Road. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery.
