FOREMAN Enquirer Contributor Battle plan. Been in any good battles lately? Whether you've been contemplating a joust, or just want to be fashionable, 1986-style, check out the pricey designer clothes of Cleopatra Brdumand. Her fall collection draws its inspiration, for the most part, from medieval armor. The designer says she enjoys making antiquity futuristic.

She prowls museums in search of inspiration, takes one element from it, and blows 1 -M ReCreations Exclusive Tunic 78. Pants 50. it up. "I woke up one morning and told my husband that I was going to design 'warrior suits' for women who have to go into battle," said the Iranian-born New York designer recently during a Cincinnati trunk showing of her designs. The self -described "female chauvinist" designed her version of power dressing.

"Women would have to win not through harshness and hardness and stiffness, the way men have in the past, but through our own And so, with kitten soft knits, symbolic patterns in fabrics she designs herself, and decidedly feminine styling, mr vi i i i she creates a line which is half daytime knitwear, half sexy evening wear. 4 XI II 1 1 The knitwear is modular. There's the signature jacket, Carriage drade KmJ ceme de la crane of fashion long and robe-like, with rolled sleeves and padded shoulders, over a mid-thigh tunic. Below that, rib-knit harem pants or a skinny skirt with abundant knife- pleats that peek in at the lower calf.

(Prices start at $500 per piece.) Evening clothes are more elegant, with glitz galore. One smashing top is a gunmetal colored knit with slightly poufed shoulders and silver embroidery reminiscent of an armored breastplate. Another evening look is a silk bustier that looks like a big, stylized falcon wrapping itself around the ULJJ Vi HI If v' j- ill I model bodice Coordinating with those U'vH tops are tiered skirts of gunmetal, gold and silver lurex which catch the light and seem to flow like liquid.

Other Cleopatra evening designs are long, plain, black crepe sheaths with accents of beaded and brocaded "armor" at hip and shoulder And then there's her lightweight fur togs, in kolinsky and silver fox. If it sounds like a lot of clothes, it is. Cleopatra's fall line had 12 patterns "I should have had one-third of that, but an artist just gets carried away," she said. "In fashion, you can only survive if you're a combination artistpsychiatrist, and if you're an independant thinker." She says fashion classics lack imagination, and do not help the "flow of energy the energy that is transmitted to you from other people, the energy you send to others. You can get energy from what you're wearing, and how you feel about yourself." No matter how much she sounds like an artist, it should be noted that at Cleopatra Broumand there's no farming out the tech stuff.

She designs her own knit patterns on a computer, and then writes the programs for the machines that will knit them. Cleopatra Broumand's designs are available at Gidding-Jenny.
