The regional Emmy contest, sponsored by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, is a two-step process. Judges review all entries 352 this year and eliminate all but the very best in each category.

Additional judges will review the 88 remaining entries and pick winners for 28 categories. The winners will be announced April at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. WLWT (Channel 5) leads all Cincinnati stations with 22 entries. WKRC-TV (Channel 12) is second with 13, including six for "P.M. Magazine," no longer produced by the station.

Other nominees include four from WXIX-TV (Channel 19); three from WCPO-TV (Channel 9); two from WCET-TV (Channel 48), and one each for WIII-TV (Channel 64), Cincinnati Bell Creative Services and Suzanne Landsbaum-Sthreiber. The contest covers broadcasts from Jan. 1 to Oct. 31, 1985. Seeing the light Let's hope WLWT's (Channel 5's) new weekend weatherman can ad lib better than his predecessor, Steve Horstmeyer.

WLWT has hired Steve Raleigh from Memphis for weekend weather, replacing Horstmeyer, who has joined the revamped "Midday" show at noon.
