FIVE Luther League Meeting Ends Officers Elected At 25th Annual Convention Held In City The three-day 25th annual convention of the Maryland Luther League was climaxed here last evening by a banquet for all delegates held at St. John's Lutheran Church when approximately 250 attended. Officers were on Monday and installed The intermediate group also held its convention here yesterday. Rev.

Smith, Woodsboro, recording secretary. District presidents were installed on Monday who were elected previous to the convention. A total of 227 delegates were registered during the convention here. Invitations for the convention next year were extended to Baltimore and Washington, D. C.

The executive committee will decide the place later. Rev. Augustus Hackman, Baltimore pastor, Maryland synodical director, was the speaker on Sunday evening in St. John's Lutheran Church. "America is suffering from a bad case of paganism," Rev.

Hackman declared. "All too many of us Americans are more concerned about pur comfort than our moral obligations. If it causes him the slightest then religion has to go by the board. Is it likely for a nation to be preserved without God? The strength of a na- tiol liss chiefly in the character of its people." A gala fun night was held on Saturday evening in the Masonic Temple auditorium. Miss Sarah Leiter, this city, spoke at'the church school session in Trinity Lutheran Church on Sunday morning on "Thou Shalt Not Steal." Rev. J.

H. Liesman, former Army chaplain, was chaplain for the convention here. There was a one-day convention of the Intermediate Luther League on Monday. It was announced that winners of the essay contest were: First, Robert Seller, Manchester; second, Phyllis Rust, Washington, and third, Dorothy Kemper, Westminster. Credits awarded on the 16- point program were: First, Grace Lutheran Church, Westminster; honorable mention, Reformation Lutheran Church, Washington.

The 831 delegates to the Democratic convention assemble in Albany tomorrow to hear a keynote address by Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt, widow of the late President.
