Jean Venuto, aided poor Despite large family, she managed to help others 9 i'J Patricia Wood, of California; sons, Anthony of Delhi, and Daniel Venuto, of Colerain Township; her mother, Mary Del Gros-sa of BY SCOTT BURGINS The Cincinnati Enquirer Jean Venuto, who baked bread for the poor, drove a school bus for deaf children and still squeezed enough from the nine-member family budget to donate to charity, died of cancer Saturday at home in Colerain Township. She was 63. Mrs. Venuto, a Girl Scout leader, baked and sold bread, giving the money to various missions at Christmas and Easter.

She also collected clothing for the poor and homeless, and helped the family business by transporting special-education children for the Cincinnati and suburban school districts. "We were raising seven kids and money was scarce. But she would still come up with money for the mission from her food allowance," said her husband, Tony. Mrs. Venuto also was a member of the Archdiocese Mission Advisory Board, St.

Boniface Mission Commission and St. Boniface Altar Society. Survivors include her daughters, Kathleen Giebel, of Colorado, Diane Murdock, of Indianapolis, Victoria Seta, of Monfort Heights, Regina Neal, of Colorado, and Jean venuto white Oak; drove school bus sisters, Anella Roser, of Covedale and Angela Steinker of White Oak; 13 grandchildren. Survivors include another daughter, Helen Lawson of Jamaica, N.Y.; a son, Ernest Gaither of Cincinnati; four brothers, Warren and Leroy Smith, both of Detroit, BY JANE PRENDERGAST The Cincinnati Enquirer Mabel Gladys Gaither spent much of her 88 years in church or at the table playing bridge. "She was pretty good at bridge," said her daughter, Merri Smith, of Cincinnati. "A group of ladies got together regularly to play." A longtime resident of Walnut Hills, Mrs. Gaither died Thursday in East Gal-braith Nursing Home. She moved to the home three years ago.

"Church was very, very important to her," her daughter said. "She was the kind who went every single Sunday." Born in Newcastle, on Nov. 10, 1900, Mrs. Gaither was the third eldest of 10 children. She moved to Cincinnati when she was 21 years old, and joined the First Antioch Church, formerly downtown.

She was a member there until 1957, when she joined the Bethel Baptist Church, Stanley and Harrison Smith, both of Cincinnati; sisters Mary Reynolds, of Columbus, Ohio, and Robbie Smith Triplett, of Gap Mills, W.Va.; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be 7:30 p.m. today at Bethel Baptist Church, 2712 Alms Place, Walnut Hills. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until the service begins.

Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Union Baptist Cemetery, Price Hill. PERRY Donald beloved father of Jason Perry, devoted son of Wilburn and Edith Peggs Perry, dear brother of Wilburn Robert Richard James M. and Jeffery P. Perry.

BY BOB WESTON The Cincinnati Enquirer Scores of local charities owe a debt of gratitude to Gordon S. Ware, who helped collect more than $175 million for community, educational and church organizations in 39 years as a fund-raiser. At 11 a.m. Saturday, they will have an opportunity to express their appreciation in a memorial service at the Seventh Presbyterian Church, 1721 Madison Road, East Walnut Hills. Mr.

Ware, 71, died June 13 at his home in Montgomery after a seven-month battle with cancer. A native of Chicago, Mr. Ware came to Cincinnati in 1950 as associate director of the Cincinnati Community Chest. Six years later, he became campaign manager of the United Appeal of Greater Cincinnati. From 1950 until 1970, when he moved to Houston, Texas, Mr.

Ware played a major role in 19 local United Appeal campaigns and was instrumental in raising a total of $124 million during that period. He headed up similar campaigns in Houston and Seattle for the next three years before returning to Cincinnati to take over as director of capital-giving projects at Xavier University. Mr. Ware was development officer for "My husband was much for hobbies, but he loved his work because he enjoyed people so much. We grew and learned from people and all the associations we had," said his wife, Virgin ia Ware, of Hyde Park.
