Business and working-men who have keenly appreciated the sig- niflcance of the club's activities have been most generous In providing materials and labor for improvements.

Fr example a rather extensive bit of interior painting and decorating was done by J. Uewellyn, assisted by a small company of men. The addition of the new exterior stairway at the eastern side of the building, was superintended by Pedgrif andthe work done by union carpenters who were glad the opportunity of doing their i bit. The club is indebted to James H. Cob-! bledlck for the flagpole, which adorns' the: building.

The Y. M. C. tX concerns itself with thejeisure time activities inside the camps, while the War Camp Community Recreation Service directs the same work outside" the camps in the adjacent towns or cities. MANY COMFORT8 THERE.

The Defenders' Recreation Club is the Oakland home of the War Ctmp Cora-munlty Service. Here the boys in uniform have individual and oollectlve possession. DANCE SUPERVISION. The large responsibility of the supervision of the dances falls upon Mrs. J. H.

Ferine, who chooses assisting hostesses, superintends the issuance of admission cards to the dancing partners for the boys and watches the details. Good music has been available through the generous co-operation of some of Oakland's younger musicians who have given their 3-Piece set in oak, fumed upholstered Suitable for the living room or library.
