Her father is an attorney and mother a professional painter. Brother Robert Lipton plays Jeff Ward in "As the World Turns." Another brother, Kenneth, is an L.A. executive.

The first 105 people to drive into the station and proclaim, "WUBE pumps me up!" were able to buy 10 gallons at the huge discount. The station called it "The Last Gas Blast." 0 Older, Wiser, But Still 'The Mod Squad' JOHN WADE, who hosted 130 of his own WCPO-TV half-hour musical-variety shows in 1973-74, was the emcee at the City of Hope's annual testimonial banquet Thursday night. It honored Robert D. Gordon, vice president-general manager of Channel 9.

Dee Felice, whose trio was on Wade's series, also entertained along with Kreskin. SUNDAY NIGHT'S "Guiness Book of World Records" special on ABC-Channel 12 (8 p.m.) will include a segment on Terrace Park's Don Cook, apiary, who will show off his bee beard. Grey-haired Hansen noted how he had black hair when he began in "General Hospital" 17 years ago. In accepting a third award for the Chicago-based "Donahue" show, Weiner called it "a heart-stopping moment" when his name was called out. "Donahue," shown in more than 140 cities, is owned by Multimedia Broadcasting, Cincinnati parent of Channel 5. In the children's awards, Robert Keeshan, "Captain Kangaroo" on CBS, was cited for his 24 years as a series host. His program lost to "Kids Are People, Too," in the best children's entertainment class.

best talk-show host class, Donahue's only competitors were John Bennett-Perry and Stephanie Edwards of the short-lived "Everyday" series. Mike Douglas, Merv Griffin and Dinah Shore were not nominated. Freeman was elated to top a 24-year acting career with his soap act PEGGY LIPTON stymied when "Mod Squad" went off ABC by TV's unwritten stereotyping code of that time. "You couldn't cross over to films. That halted all our careers.

You can do it now and become a monstrous star." Lipton's life has changed drastically since she quit full-time acting. She married composer Quincy Jones 5 years ago and her family now includes two daughters, ages three and five, and a stepdaughter, 12. "I have been busy," she admitted. "I REALLY haven't tried to work. That's why all of this is a big surprise to me.

I don't want to do a series because it's much too tiring and it would take too much time away from my family. It's better when you are young, single and ambitious. I know what it is: I went through it." She said she would do TV-movie projects "that would appeal to me" and she made it clear, "I am not turned off by working. I had a good time working. I would work again.

I am really enjoying my life as it is now." Lipton hesitated when asked about her goals and ambitions at this point in her life. "I don't know. If you asked me that six-seven years ago, I would have known. "My life has changed a lot. In the beginning, I wanted the acting thing, to be a star.

Then, I wanted a husband and family. Now, I would like to act more. And then I would like to work on the other side with production and writing. I want control over my work." She is writing music with husband Quincy now that she has got back into piano lessons after 20 years' absence. "I was a child classical pianist.

I never read music. I played everything by memory." She called her music nowadays the most exciting facet in her life. BY STEVE HOFFMAN Enquirer TV-Radio Editor Soft-spoken Peggy Lipton is pleased with the changes in TV production over the last five years. One change in particular directly affects her. "During the series I did a lot of my dialogue softly.

I never spoke loudly. I used to have to go back and loop a lot. This time, I didn't have to loop." She made that comment during a recent interview about tonight's two-hour "Return of the Mod Squad" on Channel 12. Clarence Williams II, Michael Cole and Tige Andrews also return for the special. "The cameras are much easier to adjust," she observed.

"The monstrous cameras! It has a computer built into it. I was alarmed when I first saw the enormous eye piece. You can either have a romance with the camera or be intimidated by it. I was shocked at first but then I thought it's only a machine. Luckily, I have had a lot of experience." Lipton talked of the more relaxed working atmosphere during production of the movie in comparison to the 1968-73 weekly episodes.

"You are always working under pressure in a series to get through under budget. We had the luxury of a read-through on this." SHE REMEMBERED the hectic series days when she wouldn't see an episodic script until the night before production. "It was tough luck. It was difficult to make any changes we felt necessary. At the end, I got so disgusted I would read it as it was written." Lipton had no problems with the script of tonight's two hours.

"It was all good." She enjoyed the reunion with her former showmates during the 17 shooting days. "They were basically HEADACHE? CAN CHIROPRACTIC HLLP. Donahue won his third national Emmy as outstanding host of a talk-variety show and his show was named best talk-variety for a second straight year during the Daytime Emmy awards telecast in Lincoln Center, New York City.

As he accepted his personal Emmy, Donahue called his fiance, Thomas, "the best cheerleader in the world" and thanked her for "help and inspiration." He credited Dahlman for creating the syndicated show 12 years ago at Channel 2, Dayton, Ohio. ABC's "Ryan's Hope" was named best daytime drama, NBC's "Hollywood Squares" best game show, ABC's "Kids Are People, Too" best children's entertainment series and the syndicated "Big Blue Marble" best children's informational series. IN THE soap opera acting awards, Irene Dailey, who plays Liz Matthews in "Another World," and Al Freeman who plays Ed Hall in "One Life to Live," were named best actress and actor. Best supporting acting Emmys, first year for the presentations, went to Peter Hansen, as Lee Baldwin in "General Hospital," and Su the same, which was nice," she said of her male associates. If you are going to work with someone that long and then get back together, it was comforting to find them about the same." She had something to say about each fellow: Cole: "Michael has a darling daughter who is very special, very unique and he is crazy about her.

He always wanted her." Williams: "Clarence's New York life is totally different. He has just mellowed a lot. He always kidded around. He always had a bizarre sense of humor. It showed up in his work, too.

Maybe that's presumptuous of me. I liked him a lot better." Andrews: "I really loved Tige. I hope to see more of him but he's busy: He has six children."
