flit Heauie bcwocfat, intifadas', November 22. 19)3 Lieutenant Governor's AP Waggon Wheel Lodge Report From Austin By W. P. HOBBY JR. Although our nation's 200th birthday still is two years away, thousands of Texans already are making plans to participate in the party.

So far five Texas Lubbock, San Antonio, San Marcos, and Temple- have been designated National Bicentennial Communities. This endorsement is obtained by creating a bicentennial committee representative of the entire community's population. The community then establishes programs under each of three themes: Heritage '76, projects relating to the community's Festival U. S. projects aimed at involving all citizens and attracting visitors; and Horizons '76, projects designed for the future.

Proposals for national recognition should first be submitted to the Bicentennial Commission of Texas at the University of Texas at Arlington. Once state endorsement is obtained, it is submitted for national recognition. The projects being planned now are diverse and exciting. Seguin, for example, has COMING SOON SOMETHING NEW BUT SOMETHING OLD THE LAND, is one of man's most valuable think it prime collateral. In the-past 54 years the Federal Land Bank of Houston fyas made almost 200,,000 loans on Texas farms and Vanches.

See us today for full details, no obligation of course. proposed 31 bicentennial projects, including the creation of a monument to Juan N. Seguin, expansion of the city's Fourth of July Freedom Fiesta, and establishment of a Bicentennial Civic Center. San Antonio's plans are voluminous and range from a daily calendar of events to restoration of the Mexican market in the downtown area.

One of the most unique projects in the country is underway in Donley County. The 3,000 townspeople and Children of Clarendon and surrounding area are building an amphitheater on a natural lake site, making the bricks used in construction of the tiers by hand. Under the" Festival U. S. A.

theme, Temple will be the first Texas host city next February for a group of Guatemalans, including members of the Guatemalan Army Marimba Band, the Guatemalan Folk Ballet, and a group presenting an exhibit of Mayan arts and crafts. Projects here in Aus'tin may include further beautification of Town Lake, restoration of some of the city's historic sites, and promotion of neighborhood Fourth of July celebrations. In San Marcos, a hike and bike trail along the previously inaccessible San Marcos River has been created as a bicentennial project. The Bicentennial Young Environmentalists are in charge of maintaining the beauty of the river there. The citizens of these communities certainly deserve our support and thanks.

Also, I would urge all other Texas communities to consider participating in the bicentennial celebration. Let's make our nation's 200th birthday a truly gala affair.
