Bob Faerber took second in the 300- meter hurdles (44.11) and third in the 110-meter highs (17.14). Abilene's Clay Donley was the top performer in the meet, capturing three events. The Cowboy sophomore won the 100 and 200-meter dashes with times of 11.15 and 23.52 and then captured the long jump with a leap of 217 'A. Dan Pope and Dan O'Mara of Hayden were double winners.

Abilene freshman Rena Hughes took the girls' 1600 (5:41.21) and the 3200 Nikki McMillan of Chapman, last year's state 400-meter champion in 4A, won her specialty with a time of 1:01.57. Nuggets win to set up showdown with Kings DENVER (UPI) Kiki Vandeweghe scored 15 of his 35 points in the third quarter Friday night and Dan Issel and Alex English combined for 50 more to help the Denver Nuggets defeat the Dallas Mavericks 137-126. The Nuggets' victory set up a season- ending showdown Sunday night when Denver hosts Kansas City. The winner of that game will gain the final NBA Western Conference playoff spot.

Vandeweghe kept Denver ahead in a close third quarter before Issel and English combined with reserve Glen Gondrezick to blow the contest open early in the fourth quarter. Denver led 104-100 after three periods and quickly extended it to 122-110 with 6:37 to play in the game. Issel scored 27 points, English 23 and rookie Rob Williams had 14. Mark Aguirre led the Mavericks with 31 points. ABILENE INVITATIONAL BOYS Team Scores Topeka Hoyden 167, 123''i.
