V. rK end of a show, a movie so bad they wish to place a surgeon-general-type warning on it before it does you in. Last Thursday the recipients were "Piranha," called a low-budget "Jaws" by Siskel, and "Up in Smoke." Ebert said the latter was an' endless string of stars Cheech and Chong man" to each other and little else.

It-offers establishment types who always wanted'' punch out a hippie their first chance for 16 on film. OBVIOUSLY, THE critics' words aren't final. They might love something you'll feel was the ultimate ripoff. But when a trip to the movies' goes for up to $4 a ticket (add parking if you-go-downtown), it's nice to have someone running interference for you. Since both men have been in the business for-a while in major markets (Ebert won a Pulitzer for what he does), you'll probably find what they say pretty reliable.

And they both are easy to listen to and casual enough to make the 30 minutes easy watching. PBS has not announced the full schedule'for next week's show, but three of the films to "be seen are "The Wiz," "Who Is Killing the Great'' Chefs of Europe?" and "Goin' South." All three have the potential of soaking an admission cost out of you. Tune it in and take a handful of pop- corn. they aren't out to make any unmerited money for Hollywood. "The Boys from Brazil" was one of the five reviewed films and both men testified to its stench.

Twentieth Century-Fox is not going to get rich on what they said. They also gave some good reasons for not seeing "Somebody Killed Her Husband," the newest Farrah Fawcett-Majors effort. THE TWO men were unanimous in their positive appraisals of Woody Allen's first drama, "Interiors," and the recently released version of Agatha Christie's Death on the Nile. And Just as their positive words plus the carefully selected clips might have convinced a viewer to stay away from "Brazil" or "Husband," it all whets an appetite when the samplings are good. But don't get the idea the critics have agreed beforehand and will always be in harmony.

Siskel disliked the presentation in part of Allen's movie, but thought it worked overall. Ebert had no reservations. In the fifth film, Robert Altman's "A the men were divided. Ebert had his thumb up, Siskel's was down at opinion time. Each gave his reasons, and it's in cases such as these where the viewer must become a little bit of the critic in deciding whether or not to see the film.

Each also picks his "Dog of the Week" at the BY TOM BRINKMOELLER Enquirer Reporter Watching "Sneak Previews," the new movie review series which airs every other Thursday night on PBS p.m., WCET-Channel 48), is like sitting next to someone at a theater who's eating popcorn and only being offered one handful. All the while you sit there, you want more. It was the same way last week as two newspaper film critics from Chicago wrapped their reactions to newly released movies around clips from those films. The critics, Roger Ebert of the Tribune and Gene Slskel of the Sun-Times, have of course seen the movies and published their reviews prior to the show. On "Sneak Previews" they use the clips to do what they may have taken many words for in their papers.

AS THE clips of the good movies are shown, it's like that one bite of popcorn. It Just isn't enough. Obviously, the only remedy is to either plunk down your own $3.50 and see the film or hold your breath and see what TV will eventually do to it. That's the gamble for the films' producers. By letting a bit or two of their movie prematurely into TV's hands they hope you'll come a-runnin' to the theater.

And they'll make money. Of course, the opposite can also happen. HART SAID he approved the purchase of "Dating Game" on the basis of "Its past performances on daytime TV." Spiegel said, "There was no pilot available when the program was purchased." Acquired on a one-year contract, Hart said he has no plans to take It off Channel 5, "but we're going to screen every episode." He added, "We're working with the producers to improve the program." Spiegel said, "They have promised to tone it down." Variety reported, "The raunch-Iness of Chuck Barris' resuscitated 'Dating Game' strip is causing It some censorship problems around the country." Besides Cincinnati, the only other station mentioned was KTHV-TV, Little Rock, which decided not to carry the series after a verbal agreement to do so. REHEARSALS BEGIN tonight at Channel 48 for the third annual Radio Rap, that musical-comedy stage show produced by the Greater Cincinnati Radio Broadcasters Association. The Rap takes place Wednesday, November 15, In the Netherland-Hilton Hotel. Perry Samuels, WLYK general manager and Mike Gavin, WLW radio salesman, are producer and director, respectively.
