32 The Salt Lake Tribune, Saturday, Deeember 5, 1960 Provoan, 58, Business leader Dies Special to The Trlbunt Benjamin Carter, 58, 234 E. 6th North, well-known Provo businessman, died Friday at noon at his home of a heart attack. HE WAS THE owner olf the Carter Real Estate Co. and an active member of the Provo Lions Club, Provo Footprinters and Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He retired in 1957.

Before entering the real estate business in 1950, Mr. Carter had worked with the Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph for 21 years in Provo, Salt Lake City, Tucson, Phoenix, and Yuma, where he was district manager. HE RECEIVED his education in Provo, being graduated from Provo High School where he was active in sports, lettering in football, basketball, baseball and track. Mr. Carter at tended Brigham Young Unlver- one year.

BORN NOV. 11, 1902, in Eureka, Juab County, a son of Benjamin Carlos and Emma I. Koyle Carter, he married Follis Ross, June 24, 1925, in Salt Lake Temple, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Will! CALDWELL, IDAHO (UPI) Short, 26, Friday was sentenced to life Imprisonment in the Idaho State Prison for the latal beating of his 8-month-old son last August. HE WAS FOUND guilty of second degree murder in district court here Nov. 19 by a trial jury. In pronouncing the sentence, Judge Robert B. Dunlap said he "was this was the maximum sentence he could impose." HE BECOMJIENDED that Department of Corrections personnel do not see fit to pardon Short.
