All 4-H members enrolled in the dog project should be present: Mrs.

1 Gasche will discuss the dog clinic to be held at Rock Springs Ranch on Dec. 4th and 5th. Also at the meeting a team of Lyon County 4-H members will prepare to represent Lyon County in a "Dog Bowl" contest. The contest is run much like College Bowl on television. Mrs.

Gasche also has some interesting ideas to discuss about future Dog Club meetings. Conservation "We got close to nature." "We got our fingernails dirty learning Iliked that!" "We were involved it was neat looking into something that most people just take for granted." Members of 4-H and other teens who attended this summer's Kansas youth camp for conservation of natural resources gave high marks to the four-day session. In "rap" groups, informal classes, and special interest sessions held at Rock Springs Ranch, the state 4-H Center, some 300 young people studied sous, water, forest and prairie and resource needs for the future. The camp was sponsored by the Cooperative Extension -Service, Kansas State University. An "outdoor classroom" setting and ah emphasis on youth involvement in activities super' vised by conservation specialists gave campers a chance to "dig in the dirt, wade in the water and run in the- This informal approach to education is the core of the national 4-H'- conservation of natural resources program conducted, by-the Cooperative Extension Service; Members learn by'doing about scientific conservation and economic uses" of natural resources, and management of essential re- Young people who excel in 4-H conservation -projects and activities "can earn recognition from John Deere.

Goals for Clubs Goal setting is'bne of the tasks for Kansas 4-H clubs as the new year gets under way. Practical and successful goals are based on a review and understanding of the 4-H club and the community. Some goals might be as fol- lows: Re-enroll all eligible mem- bers. -i Give each 1 member an opportunity to'be on a program twice the-year.

WGive all members an opportunity to serve on a committee of their choice. Start meetings on time, and end oh time: Contact all eligible girls and boys in the community regarding 4-H membership several: times during.the year. Have at least one parent at every meeting. V'. Complete a planned community service project.

Arrange two or more window displays or. exhibits and re- 'port all club events to the newspaper. Be sure that every member gives at least two demonstrations. Have leaders and junior leaders visit homes of all first- and second-year members twice during the year, once during the first month after enrollment. Miss World Contest Affected by Politics LONDON (AP) Zanella Tshabalala, 19-year-old Miss Swaziland, and Lesur, 18-year-old Miss Mauritius, came to London to compete in the Miss World beauty contest.

But they, are going to wind up on the sidelines. Their countries on Sunday withdrew their entries from the contest to protest the presence of two entrants from South Africa, one black and one white. According to a spokeswoman for Mecca, the; British entertainments company, the two African governments insisted that South Africa be represented by only one young woman picked on a multiracial basis..
