6-Alfleno (| q .) Upper De* Moines Tuesday, Dec. 13, 1960 Several Bancroft Area Residents Are Hospitalized Bancroft — Mnny Bancroft folks have been hospitalized. Floyd Yackcl has been a patient at Holy Family Hospital tvhere he underwent major sur- fieiy last week. P. M. Sehiltz was a patient at the same hospital for medical treatment. Frank Bauer is slowly recovering from an accident ho suffered several weeks ago. Robert Kahler has been ;i patient at Holy Family Hospital With pneumonia. He is the ir year-old son of Mr and Mrs Alva Kahler. and a student of St. Johns High School. Mr and Mrs Dan Degen arc the p a re n t s of tneir first son born Dec. 3 at St. Ann Hospital, Algona. The Degens have three daughters. Mr and Mrs Charles McGuire of Bancroft and Mrs Degen, Algona. are the grandparents. Mr and Mrs Harold Boeckholt took their small daughter Cindy to Iowa City recently after she became suddenly ill. Cindy had been home for a few weeks after being at Iowa City previously. Mr and Mrs Walter Gocke was called to Fort Dodge by the illness of their daughter Jane, a pa- ipnt at Mercy Hospital. Jane has been employed at Fort Dodge. ROCK Mr G. B. (Silm) Luck of Nashua told the story of the bump pn his head which turned out half a century later to be a small stone or pebble. Fifty years ago he fell and struck his head on a post. A small bump just wouldn't go away. Recently a barbel- struck the bump with his comb. He combed again, coming' up with a pebble about the size of your little finger nail. IF ITS NEWS. Program Details of the cost-sharing agricultural conservation program (ACP) for 1961 in Kossuth County were announced last week by Richard I. Anderson, chairman of the coimty ASC committee. 7Te stated that the soil and water conservation practices offered in the l!)fil program are substantial}}- the same as those offered in 1960. lie emphasized, however, that in line with higher construction costs the allowable cost-share rates tor several practices will be a little higher in 1961. As in previous years, the cost- sharing program for 1961 will be administered on the local level by the farmer-elected county and community ASC comitecmen. All farmers in the county who wish to participate in the 1961 ACP will be given an opportunity to apply for practices anytime after January 2, 1961, at the county ASC office in Algona, Iowa. Kossuth county received an allocation of S79.30D.OO for the 1961 program. Cost-share rates are established so that they represent from about 50 percent to as much as 70 or 80 percent of the average cost of performing the practices offered in the county. The world's second largest lead mining district, located in southeastern Missouri, has produced enough lead to fill a freight car 1,450 miles long, or the distance from St. Louis to Salt Lake City.
