Grandpa Smith Of Burt, 90, Credits Hard Work Butt — D. W. Smith, bettor- known to t'viTyune as Grnndpa Smith, was pleasantly surprised Sunday when all his ehirdmi, tvilh tne exception of his son liny of Eagle Grove, gathered at the home of his daugnter, Mrs Summer Parsons to honor him on his 90th birthday anniversary. Grandpa is stijl very aetive in spile of ins years, in fact his chil- clien thinit lie is a bit too ambitious. He still enjoys driving his own car. He also insists on help- Ing with the cnores wnerever ho nugnt DC visiting. He lias made his home with his children since his wile's death in 1938. Grandpa was born in Emden, Germany Nov. 18, 1870. He nas Jived near Burt since 1898. Grandpa received a number of gifts among tnem a beautifully decorated birthday cake. When asked to what he attributed his long life, Grandpa said, "Oh I guess it was plenty ol hard work to keep me out ot mischief."
