Scott asked she said Scott argued as has Mrs Bouvia that her weight has been roughly the same about 75 pounds for 15 months She said that at USC medical center where she stayed for three months before the hospital transferred her to High Desert she was never weighed She said her weight had not been an issue at USC and she could not understand why it had now become one She went to that hospital she said in the interview to find a way to control her pain The pain began to increase after she returned from Tijuana Mex ico where she had gone with some friends to carry out the plan that the judge blocked at Riverside General Looking back she said she realized the circumstances of her death would put her friends in legal jeopardy so she decided against it Arrangments were made for her to stay at a facility in Southern California Neither she nor her lawyer would identify it because of an agreement she said she made not to get the facility in volved in litigation or publicity Another condition of her stay was that she would not starve herself She stayed at the unidentified facility for nearly six months She said she was comfortable there but was unable to ease her pain She said she a doctor to get but had trouble finding one who would take her or a while she said she took Demerol and Valium and other drugs in pill form they were not controlling the At that point she went to USC There she gave physicians per mission to insert a catheter in her chest through which she received a steady infusion of morphine This has been continued at High Desert although Scott said physi cians there had threatened to stop the morphine if she would not eat solid foods Scott who is also a physician said he believed Mrs Bouvia was now addicted The young woman who earned a college degree despite her han dicap who was married and was determined to have a child said her immediate goal was to try to remain independent as always tried to want to live in more private she said know when I will die in a year or in 10 years But I want to be in a more comfortable environment or that I need a physician who will treat me And I may need a registered nurse because of the way the morphine pump is used in my chest I know if this is Lying on her bed asking a visitor to help her smoke a cigarette Mrs Bouvia said she had always known her condition would deteriorate and that she would die young She says others had looked at her accomplishments and wondered why she had turned against life people said it was my marriage which failed or my in ability to pursue my career or my she said my decision was made a few years before all that happened I didn't want to ever depend on others in an institution caught in a legal bind because other people realize not living Kinsey Institute prepares to redo controversial sex study after 40 years By JOYCE A VENEZIA Associated Press Writer BLOOMINGTON Ind (AP) orty years ago thousands of peo ple told all about their sex lives to Dr Alfred Kinsey Today for the sake of science many want to talk again Dr June Reinisch director of the Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex Gender and Reproduction says her resear chers want to re interview 2000 of the 12000 people who originally spoke to Kinsey the institute's founder and his staff Reinisch noted "have already contacted us and said 'Oh it was so fantastic I want to tell you about hap pened to me since" know so little about older people and our population is demographically getting older every year" Reinisch said baby boomers are into their 40s Specifically the institute hopes to learn about the effects of illness and aging on sexuality Reinisch said The study will also reveal lot about memory when it comes to emotional Reinisch said in a recent interview got a vast store of data that these peo ple gave us many years ago We can ask them what they think they told It is of utmost importance to begin the study right away she said because many of the original interviewees are elderly About 8000 of them are believed to be alive The institute's former director Paul Henry Gebhard is writing a grant proposal for the $1 million project that should be completed by early spring Reinisch said a possibility that we could be beginning this time next year" she said Reinisch 42 took over as the in first woman director in 1982 In her most noted research she concluded that a child's role" or the expression of masculinity or femininity can New Mexico opens new Museum of Natural History By TVER PETERSON 1986 NY Times News Service ALBUQUERQUE NM Jonathan Callender director of New Mexico's new Museum of Natural History ran his hand over the bumps and streaks in a plaster partition between exhibits volunteer he said affectionately fix it Callender who left the Universi ty of New Mexico to create the country's first new state natural history museum since one in Idaho in the is proud of the round the clock volunteer work that helped to open the museum on the timetable He is not disturbed by plastic construction sheeting over unfinished exhibits bare display plcoves and plaster ing that is more creative than professional did not occupy the building until April he said me another museum that installed 30000 feet of exhibit space in nine The museum paid for with $85 million in oil gas and coal mining taxes levied by the New Mexico Legislature and $2 million in private contributions is designed to teach and celebrate the natural history of the Southwest What distinguishes it from other museums of its type he said is that at the outset it lacked the im posing private collections of ar tifacts that provided the impulse for the creation of great museums like the Smithsonian in Washington and the American Museum of Natural History in New York Instead of collections the New Mexico museum stresses the development of the land and living creatures of the region through time in sequential exhibits using black lighting computers video displays and polarizing lenses are two ways to build a natural history Callender said: say that the collection determines the meaning of the museum and to use the museum as a way to learn about the natural world Obviously we chose No 2" He said natural history museums historically drew many children like zoos and unlike art museums The stress at this center is therefore on dramatizing the evolution of the earth and par ticularly the earth that would someday be New by let ting visitors touch smell listen and hear as well as see nowadays would no more spend an afternoon looking at 5000 stuffed birds behind glass than the man in the Callender argued they love to touch them to see them on television or see live birds if we could get them the kind of experience looking for The new museum opened of ficially on Jan 11 to meet the financing require ment that money other than tax dollars would start flowing in by that date and 50000 visitors have streamed through since Not all Albuquerqeans are hap py with the architec ture and some liken its yellow stucco walls and sloping roofs to a warehouse or factory be affected by hormones and drugs taken by the child's mother while pregnant The first Kinsey volume ual Behavior in the Human startled many Americans but became a best seller when it ap peared in 1948 It revealed among other things that 90 percent of the 9000 males questioned said they had masturbated and more than a third said they had had homosex ual experiences The institute produces a thrice weekly syndicated column "The Kinsey which appears in more than 100 newspapers The column helps to correct a tic lack of about topics such as menopause im potence orgasm contraception and masturbation Reinisch said She added "We try to write it in such a way so that only those who are opposed to sex would be offended" LEGAL ADVERTISEMENT SALE Pursuant to a Judgment of the Boyle Circuit Court on the 15th day of November 1985 in the case of CITIZENS NATIONAL BANK Plaintiff vs
