FUNERAL DIRcCIORS CHerry 1-6929 BRENTWOOD VILLAGE 3 twin-sire bedroom ranch home; twin closets in master bedroom, Hollywood bath, wall-lo-wall carpeting, air A second-degree murder charge wa filed by police last night against a Peebles Corner bartender who shot and killed a customer who police suspect was a "drifter" who posed as a wealthy Cheyenne, rancher. The bartender, Richard Towner, 44, 8125 Burkhardt Canterbury Gardens, claimed self-defense. The victim, identified only as Robert Thomas, 39, address unknown, died almost immediately of a bullet wound in hi neck. His fingerprints were Bent to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Washington, to establish his identity. Witnesses to the shooting, which accurred in the 777 Bar, 775 E.

McMilian said Towner fired as Thomas reached over the bar fter Towner had asked him to leave. Thomas' fiancee, Mrs. Fannie Hartung, 37, 5944 Rhode Island a widow, who said they were to marry today, was aeated in Thomas' car outside the cafe when the shooting occurred. She said Thomas told her he was a Wyoming rancher. However, a check with Cheyenne authorities indicated Thomas was unknown in that area.

Bank officials in Cheyenne and Cincinnati said they knew nothing of any transfers of money, as Mrs. Hartung said Thomas told her he was having done. Police said that Thomas was not expensively dressed, nor did he have any money when he entered the bar r.id sought to get four quarts of beer "on the cuff." That was what precipitated the shooting, Towner and three witnesses said. The witnesses were Clovis K. Amburgey, 25, 2729 Woodburn William Schoone, 21, 2241 Flora and Orangie Clark, 22, 2241 Kemper Ln.

They laid Thomas, a six-foot, 200-pound man, became "nasty, loud and abusive" when EDUCATION AND INSTRUCTION GEO. H. ROHDE SON AIR-C0NDTIONED. FUNERAL HOME A EES I in wood end Delte Aves. EA 1-0404 ALLISON ROSE COVINGTON, CO 1-014 WRASSMANN fUHN1 2625 Gil bert Ave.

Towner said he then decided to give Thomas two quarts of beer "to get rid of him." In doing so, the bartender opened one of the bottles and put a cork on it when Thomas complained. Thomas then started to leave, but changed his mind, took the cork out of the bottle and started drinking it. He also demanded more beer. Towner refused and told Thomas to leave. Thomas then threatened to punch him in the nose, swung across the bar at Townee, then tried to climb over it.

Towner picked up a revolver from the back bar, fired once, then called police when Thomas slumped to the floor. Mrs. Hartung said she met Thomas seven months ago but had been keeping steady company with him only the last three weeks. A bartender at Benny's Cafe, 2441 Gilbert said Thomas had visited the cafe "a number of times" for about a month and always had money. The informant said he never asked for credit.

October 20. 9. at the Dobblmg Funeral nome, iuo lulu transport so swiftly after 5.04 p. m. last Friday while she was 1028 miles east of Hawaii? Wrist watches on three of the bodies had stopped 23 minutes later.

The plane pilot had made only a routine position report at 5:04. He wasn't scheduled to give another until 6 p. m. A Navy officer in the search said the answer could have been a fire, a meteor or a propeller which came loose and sliced into the plane. He considered propeller trouble as most likely.

But Pan American officials in San Francisco disagreed. They said all planes had been equipped with new type propellers after trouble was encountered with previous ones. So that no clue might be lost, the Navy issued instructions that all bodies were to be preserved by refrigeration and not embalmed. Embalming might interfere with pathological tests. The carrier is to take them back to Long Beach, after it ends its search.
