Air orce Base have reported that a 57 aircraft has crashed in a restricted bombing range area near the base The plane was observed by tower operators through field glasses They reported the plane was burning but could not determine if anyone had been injured Rescue workers were sent to the scene immediately but the area is believed to be exteremly difficult to travel through The aircraft usually the $15 million Tropicana received clearance today for its proposed April 4 opening with the granting of liquor and gambling permits by the Clark county licensing board The 300 room hotel is located on a 40 acre section on which $800000 was spent for landscap ing and decorating In granting the permits the licensing board approved 26 of the investiors and granted conditional approval to Charles Barons Chi cago auto dealer and Lou Lederer also a Chicago business man who pledged to make their combined $150000 investment in the hotel within 45 days The board de ferred action on Roger Cleary and held before final approval can be given will be scheduled for sometime in the next two or three weeks in Las Vegas Bus Will Transport 30 Students to Elko ELKO Members of the board of trustees of the Elko' County School District last week ap proved the transportation of all students at the Lee school to Elko the consequent closing of the two teacher school In other significant items on the agenda the trustees gave the go ahead signal to a practical nurse training course at Elko General Hospital voted to retain only three of the four coaches at Elko High School in a coaching capacity and renominated teach ers throughout the county A delegation of nearly 30 resi dents of the Lee area appeared before the trustees to seek settle ment of the status of the Lee school which has been a subject of discussion for several months Spokesman for the group Wil bur Merrill of Elko initially told the trustees the residents' of the area desired to have students in the upper four grades of elemen tary school and in high school transported to Elko but the mem bers of the delegation later agreed to a proposal by the trustees that the entire student body about 30 pupils be bussed to Elko on a one year trial basis Members of the school board indicated the present teachers at the school Mr and Mrs Henry Berthiaume would be integrated into the district system probably in Elko schools i Dr Loyal Norman county superintendent of schools said the consolidation action would result in a saving for the school district of approximately $10000 Various trustees expressed the view the students
