Reno Nevada April 22 Editor Daily Journal: I noticed in this Journal that Dr Pinniger seems to be at a loss in regards to what to do with the one hundred dollars that has in the bank and which was subscribed towards a good road fund As he asks for sug gestions I suggest that he hold the same until after the city election May 5th next then turn thesaid money over to the mayor elect same to be used by the city council as they may deem right and proper This will be a starter and no doubt will be appre ciated by the council as the impression is that they will not be overburdened with cash to provided the jeal ousies now manifested reach ex tremes owing to the very rich Donnelly mountain last It is of special interest to people of Surprise valley as that would become the source of supplies for the camp it being the nearest place and the road from there to the camp by way of orty Nine being practically a good road without any work The way south of Reno to Amedee is a very rough country and travelers going out or in from that way have ex perienced much difficulty Back of water on the way is not an inconvenience' but one should know the drives in prder to have no trouble At the mountain there is not an abundance of water butthere are a good many springs which furnish water for camp purposes There is not suf ficient Amt er for milling purposes how ever on the mountain Donnelly mountain like many other new strikes may prove to be a failure but the present indications are eertain i lv favorable and miners who wish to go It seems that Nevada has only in recent years begun to show its posi tion with the mineral producing states It is true producing among the silver the attention to other minerals and each year finds new mining towns spring ing up throughout the entire state and Nevada is fast forging ahead' as a gold producing state Considerable excitement has recently sprung strike June Donnelly mountain is also known as Division Peak being thus designated on the maps but it is more familiarly known to the stock men of northeast ern Nevada as Donnelly mountain It was supposed to be on the divid ing line between Humboldt and Wash oe counties but last season surveyors decided that it isabout four miles east of that line and so is situated in Hum boldt county Locating it from Surprise valley it is nearly due east from Eagleville and 75 miles T1iq discovery of Donnelly mountfun is credited to a Mr Murray who was at the time (about June 20 1902) acting as cook for the vaquero outfit of the Gerlach Company under the charge of their foreman Jas Raser That there was hidden treasure in this mountain has been believed by residents of Surprise valley for years for a good many years ago teamsteis who were passing that way with bar ley to the mines east of there picked up float quartz on the fiats below the mountain which showed free gold Mr Woods Qf Cedarville Cal has made several trips out there looking for the ledge but without avail The ledge as discovered by Mr Murray did not crop out but was found only about eighteen inches below the surface The first quartz showing I free gold was plentiful covering st era! acres near and below the ledge i Ti fnrn otinn seems to be solid and permanent There are two distinct granite ledges running about north and TOWNS SHOULD lD0Tyn i COMPROMISE RE EXAMiNED Ediwin Arkell Turley A Price
