Two Lenten noon organ recital series have become a much- anticipated annual tradition in the area. One series runs at various churches throughout East and West Dundee and Carpen- tersviile. The other takes place at the First Congregational church in Elgin. The Dundees 1 Lenten Organ Recital Series begins at noon Thursdays at churches in the downtown area. These recitals also give people an opportunity to visit the historical and beautiful sanctuaries in the communities.

This year marks the 23rd annual presentation of the Jane Chipman Lenten Organ Series at First Congregational United Church of Christ of Elgin. All backgrounds are welcome; there is no religious observance associated with the recitals.

The half-hour long recitals begin at noon and are free and open to the public at the church at 256 E. Chicago St. in downtown Elgin. Parking is available in the lot behind the church as well as in the city parking deck entered from Highland Avenue. Begun 22 years ago by Jane Chipman while she was organist at the church, this year's series presents organists spanning the Chicago area, and this year extending as far away as Costa Rica Featured recitalists include the following: Today: John Linker from St Charles' Episcopal Church, St Charles.

April 21: Good Friday Presentation by the Chancel Choir of First Congregational United Church of Christ, Robert Hanson, Conductor Performing: "Stabat Mater," by Daniel Pinkham (with possible harp accompaniment) "Requiem in Minor," by Josef Rheinberger. The organ of the First Congregational Church is a 49-rank, three-manual instrument of several time periods and builders, all rebuilt and restored by the Berghaus Organ Company of Bellwood in 1997.
