He became a Metho dist minister and preached at Qhapel His mother Lydia Black Ayres married Thomas Roads in 1847 and they became the parents of three children rank Robert and Clara After Mr' Roads Highland County Water Dis trict Monday and Tuesday to learn what progress was being made on the water supply project In addi tion team captains were chosen from the townships and organized for a solicitation drive The first meeting was held at the Salem School auditorium at Pricetown to familiarize residents of the southwest part of the county with the water district and to or ganize and inform residents of southeastern Highland County The steering committee asked persons attending to pitch in and help to solicit in the southern part of the county for an initial deposit of $10 on the $75 tap in fee One team captain was chosen from each township The team captains have the responsibil ity of finding persons to assist them in conducting the drive The steering committee urged persons to assist the team captain of their township out the great amount of territory each captain must cover in the solicitation drive The team captains received in structions on solicitations includ ing question and answer sheets THERE WAS some heavy drain on repair funds this year he add ed A new roof was put on the gym at Marshall there were furnace re pairs at both Marshair and New Market buildings and a boiler had to be replaced on a furnace at Washington School The school was recently compli mented on its new library facilities by the Ohio Department of Educa tion In a letter to the librarian re cently Robert Case School Li brary Services in the state depart ment stated: 4'I must again compliment you on the outstanding'collection of li brary materialswhich you have se lected There is a most positive picture of library development evi denced in Much of the credit for develop ing the library and its proper op eration goes to the librarian Mrs Cora Chance Bennett said The dis trict with the aid of some federal funds purchased" about $10000 worth of new books for the library during recent months Some of these are still coming in The board agreed to meet on Monday Oct 17 to actually adopt the ordinance was made by High am and seconded by Lafferty The vote was the same as for suspen sion of the rules and the ordi nance was adopted effective im mediately by a vote of six to one The proposed issuance of $30000 in refuse disposal bonds was brought to attention by President James Byrd Byrd ex plained that the 1964 65 council voted to borrow $30000 for im phovement of The city landfill The money was used to buy a new "bulldozer to build some new buildings and to acquire addition al land City Auditor Helen Jones said only $7297 was left of the original amount The old council voted to author ize the mayor to borrow the neces sary funds for one year from a lo cal bank The loan is due this fall aq4 thenew council will have to vote to issue bonds to repay the as Hillsboro City Council voted five to two to adopt the tax ordinance and its accompanying resolution on the third and final reading Council also cleared up some business left by the 1964 65 council by passing an emergency ordinance providing for the issuance of $30000 in re fuse disposal bonds Council members first step in implementation of the im comtrtax by passing an emergency ordinance accepting Emerson Davis and Company 504 Union Bank Building Youngstown as income tax consultants for the city and authorizing Mayor Chi istoffel to contract with the firm The ordinance provides that the firm will and supervisor and will set up the proper system for col lection of the tax It was estimated earlier that Emerson Davis and Company would be paid $875 per month for 12 months for putting the new into effect Edward Thomas made the motion to approve the third reading of the tax ordinance and Walter Higham seconded the motion Arnold Lafferty voted yes Higham yes Dr enner no' Thomas yes American Insti tute of Architects in 1940 I Atlee Bernard Ayrfis born on a farm near Hillsboro July 12 1873 recently celebrated his 93rd birth day at his home in San Antonio Texas It is thought' by the American Institute of Architects in Washing ton that he is the oldest practicing architect in the United States He still puts in an eight hour day at his office in San Anton io Atlee Bernard Ayres was born and reared in Highland County He is the great grandson of Peter Leake Ayres who freed his slaves at Jamestown Virginia in and came to the county the same year He settled on a farm on the Anderson Pike and in partnership with James Trimble raised prize Durham cattle imported from Eng land Mr Ayres received his name from his step father William Bernard and his mother whose maiden name was Mary Atlee His 1 father was named Tandy letcher Ayres when born August 11 1845 but was renamed Nathan Tandy monoxide fumes creep ing through the floorboards of an old car apparently caused the' seat death of its youthful owner here The victim was identified Ronald Ray Jennings 19 Hillsboro Rt 8 whose body was found in his car near the end of Bigelow Street Monday afternoon Dr Ronald Gustin deputy coun Ty coroner Hillsboro ruled that it was an accidental death due to car bon monoxide poisoning Two passing youths found Jen nings about 2 Monday and notified authorities They were identified by police as Dale Willey and Terry Burba They said they thought at first that he was just asleep Officers after checking the scene theorized that Jennings apparently pulled his car off the street parked left the motor run ning and went to Hehad taken off his shoes and put his In 1938 Mr Ayres was of the board of the State by Cordell Hull Secretary of State as a delegate to the 16th Interna tional Congress of Planning and Housing Mexico City to represent the United States Mr Ayres isTi charter member of tle Texas Society of Architects as well as a charter member of the West Texas Chapter
