• Portland Twp. By Mrs. Victor Fitch Sunday dinner guests at the Johnny H. Harms home were Mr find Mrs Eugene- Meyer and Ellen and Joel. Mr and Mrs Lawrence Govern; and Vincent Govern were Sunday dinner guests 'of Mr and Mrs Gene NiKson at Winnobago. Mrs Lawrence Govern went to Des Moines Friday afternoon. Mr rind Mrs Chester Smith and Bob spent the week end at the home of Mr nnd Mrs Russell Jleideman at Waterloo. Mrs Lawrence Govern accompanied Mrs Virgil Schrader to Alfiona last week where they visited Mrs Merta Wallace and Marie Grover. Mr nnd Mrs Johnny II, Harms and Debbie attended a birthday party Tuesday evening in honor of Grandma Harms (Mrs John A. Harms) 89lh birthday. Others attending the party were Mr nnd Mrs Folkcrt Sleeker, Mr and Mrs Albert Harms and family, Mr and Mrs Horm«n Harms and boys, Mr and Mrs Carl Harms and Audrey, Mr and Mrs Jesse Harms,«Mary Norma and David, Mr and Mrs John K. Harms, Jenny Harms, Mr and Mrs Ralph Harms and family, Mr and Mrs Loren Hanson and family, Mr and Mrs Wilbur Meindcrt and family, Mr and Mrs Rollo Moore and Brian and Johnny G. Harms. Mr and Mrs Lawrence Govern and Vincent Govern wont to Wesley for the turkey dinner Sunday. Mr and Mrs Victor Filch, Ko- renc arid Judy and Ben Leeck were Monday evening guests at the George Hix home, helping Mr Hix eolebralo his birlhdny, which was Sept. !ifl. Mr and Mrs Jesse Harms have a now grandson. A baby boy was born to Mr and Mrs James Harms of Fort Dodge Sept. 13 weighing 7 pounds, 10 ounces. Ruth Harms, sister of James, spent two weeks with them, mother and baby came homo from the hospital, Sunday. The little fellow has been named, Scntt Allen. He has a sister, Marcelhi Jean. Belinda Champion, daughter ol Mr nnd Mrs Bill Champion, Jr. spent a week with her grandparents, Mr and Mrs Jesse Harms. Her parents of Savanna. 111. came for her and will spend the week end at the Harms home and the Bill Champion, Sr. home at Lone Rock. Several Portland families attended the fuj-t-ral Thursday morning of Edward Zwiefel at the Baptist church in Algona. Mr fcwiofel and his family lived many years in the Portland vicinity before retiring to their home in Titonka and have many friends here. Mrs Lawrence Govern was the guest speaker Tnursday at lea honoring the teachi-rs at Lakota school, given by the Acorn Club of Lakota. A baby girl was born- to Mr and Mrs Jack Tieman Sept. 28 at the Estherville hospital. Mr and Mrs Dean Cox and little daughter, Susie. Fort. Dodge, spent the week end at the Bernard Meister home. Dean is a brother of Mrs Meister. Mr and Mrs R. V. Cox of Fort Dodge came Sunday to spend the day with their daughter and family, the Bernard Meisters. Monday the Meisters and Coxes went to Ivanhoc, Minnesota, where they attended the funeral of Mrs Margaret Lemker. Mr and Mrs Jesse Harms went to Iowa Falls Tuesday whore they attended the funeral of Mrs Gerald Meyer. Mrs Donald Ringsdorf, Mrs W: J. Stewart and Mrs Victor Fitch were among the many visitors calling on Mrs Hazel Carroll last week. Mr and Mrs George Donovan and family of Blue Earth were Tuesday evening visitors at the Bernard Meister home. Mr and Mrs Donovan went up north for a week of fishing nnd vacationing. The three Donovan children remained in the Meister home while their parents were gone. Mrs George Hix spent Friday afternoon visiting Mrs Dwight Ruse and Mrs Stanley Ruse and Leroy. *• "Time tells on a man. Especially a good time". Mrs LeRoy Worby read an article, secret sisters were revealed. Mrs Ralph Richards'gave. a book report and recreation. Guests were Mrs Marlyn Pfibsen and children, Mrs Norman Rolland and Mrs Archie Holland. The turxey supper served by the United Presbyterian Women Thursday evening was well attended with about 215 guests served. Mr and Mrs Mike Coyle and Mr and Mrs Roy Telford went to Barnum, Minn, where they visited the Marvin Wier family from Friday until Monday. Mrs Harold Henrickson of Emmetsburg visited at the Donald Usher home Tuesday and Thursday. Mr and Mrs Robert Waechtor of West Bend are the parents of an 8 Ib. and 12 m, son born. Sept. 27- at Palo Alto Memorial Hospital at Emmetsburg Mr and Mrs Antone Waeehter are the paternad grandparents. The Lutheran Women of the Church met Wednr-sday with Mrs Sam Kropf and Mrs Joe Traub as hostesses. A bazaar will be held this fall and also a Norwegian supper will be served, with the dates of both to be set later. Mrs Bertha Jacobson gave the lesson.
