MICHAELS ITEMS. The relief of tbe ice embargo, has added some little comfort to the citizens of tbe neigDDornood, out substantial results are yet in the prospective. The improvement in the public roads gave better travel and consequently more prompt mail service. A terrible gorge however, ex isU between Dr. Wm.

Caulk'a gate and the West Martingham farm, caused by tbe ex cessive rain and snow melting of last Thurs day. A radical use of shells on that clay section 'ould be a judicious investment on the part of tbe County Commissioners. It might be coupled with judicious logging on both sides. The Easton mail service chaoged hands last week, the firm of Lockerman Sulli van taking the place of jovial Rufus Warn er. hether due to better roads or not.

the mails are received and distributed at an ear. lier hour than heretofore. During the terrible strain on this commu nity there was necessarily some suffering! but tbe charitably disposed were ready with their good offices. It being known that people needed food, the Town Literary committee of ladies who had in charge a festival for the purchase of books, deemed it more proper to devote their oflering to the alleviation of suffering, aud defer the cater ing to tbe mental needs. Tbey were substantially helped by others not connected with the Library.

The oyster trade resumes, with the open ing of navigation, but tbe demand is small and prices for the bevilves consequently low. The Baltimore market furnishes buy ers at this season of tbe year with oyeters for steaming, but 20 cts. per bushel is as high as is ever paid. Two schooners have come here and loaded, but the high winds make the catch ut profitable. The tongers, view with alarm the bills presented before tbe Assembly restricting foreign purchases.

All present had a most enjoyable time, and everything was of the best. Gov. Groome has so many warm personal friends in Talbot, and is so well known here, it seems almost as if one of our owncti-zens bad received the Baltimore collector-ship; and we are sure that the appointment of no one outside of this county would have given so much satisfaction here as the appointment of Gov. Groome has given. QOur people want the oystering tonging season to begin on tbe 1st of October and last to the 1st of May.

There is very little profit in tbe business in September, but it pays well to work in April: and it is absolutely necessary that tongmen should be permitted to work in April, when the rivers ave been closed by ice a good part of the winter.
