Mr. Bates brought along a radish in the form of human hand which he left in the office window to attract attention of passersby. Of the many freak radishes this one seems to bo more than ordinarily attractive.

Oavllla who resides on a farm in the vicinity of Reigert's school house, in North Cornwall brought a huge radish to the NEWS ofttco on Saturday where it is on display and attracting unusual attention from passersby. The radish resembles small watermelon lu shape, and weighs six aud one half pounds. i Brother Entertained By Dentist Seyfert Dr. Robert E. Lebanon Auto Radiator Repairing Co, 13 Chevreux, Courtecon, Cerny and Allies, now occupied by the French are all well beyond the Chemin des Dames road and the ridge, on the way to Laon. The cities form a chain all approximately eight miles due south of Laon and from Chevreux, on the west to Allies, on the east, the total front they represent is about nine miles. Some of the moat intense fighting of the war has centered ajiout Cerny and Aljles. The French took the line of the Chemin des Dames here after repeated assaults and hardly a week passed from that time until General Petaln's victorious assault far to the west ien days ago, that the Germans djd not strive by powerful attacks, to recapture It. The four cities now held by the French are on the northern down- slope of the ridge along the top of which runs the Chemin des Damea.

From the arc which they represent out of LHOII, the way is generally rolling as opposed to the rather sharp und broken country on the souhtern slope of the Chemin des Dames ridge. The terrain, therefore, greatly favors the French advance toward Laon. The advancing French found the Germans, ip. their "strategic retreat' had blown up all bridges across this waterway. First announcement of the German withdrawal in the Aisne sector was made in Friday's official statement, which was delayed far beyond the usual hour of Issuance.

This night statement mentolned a French advance over a front of 30 kilometers to a depth of one kilometer and occupation of Courteoon. Cerny, Allies and Chevreux. Today's war office fixing the advanced French line at the Ail- ette, indicated a further step for ward. question of government seizure of telephone lines in five Pacific coast States, in order to end the dispute between officials of the Pacific phone and Telegraph Company and their employes and to assure uninterrupted telephone service, rested today in the hands of President Wilson. Following the expiration of an ultimatum issued by him to the company, United States Mediator Verner Z. Reed, representing Secretary of Labor Wilson, telegraphed the secretary urgently recommending that the plants, properties and the services ot officials and employes of the telephone company be immediately com- maiideered. A reply from Secretary Wilson ii expected.
