the test weight of wheat con be increased slightly by combining early and handling it carefully. As a general rule, figure that the tett weight will drop about a quarter-of a pound per bushel each day after it hat ripened. Generally this won't be too important but it can mean the difference between No. 1 and No. 2 grades in some years. Shatter and cutterbar losses rise the most rapidly when harvest is delayed. Normally you can expect to lose about 12 pounds per acre for each day that combining is delayed after it reaches 25% moisture. You'll need approximately five cubic feet of air per bushel of grain stored at 20% moisture to assure proper drying. Normally you won't want to store more than six feet of high moisture grain at a time to be sure it will dry properly. The supplemental heater shown here provides drying insurance in case the weather becomes unusually muggy.
