Range of prices: May 117.32117,32117.39 bid, 17.38 Market steady. New York, June 25 (A. Prospects for a renewal of showers In the cotton belt over Sunday led to rallies from an opening decline in the cotton market today. October sold up from 16.86b to 10.99c. or 7 points net higher, but there was a spurt of realising in the last few minutes and it closed at 16.91c.

The general market closed steady, net 4 points higher to 1 point lower. The opening was steady at a aecime of 1 to 4 points. Active months showed net losses of about 6 to 8 points in early tradlnjt under liquidation, promoted by favorable early weather reports. The map showed less ral.n In the belt than has for some Mime, and the trade seemed hopeful of the dry, warm weather, ls said to be much needed over -the South. Offerings were comparatively light, however, and the forenoon market firmed up on the official forecast for showers in most sections of the bolt, tfuly contracts, which had sold off to 16.60c, advanced to 16.64c, while December rallied from 17.08c to 17.23c, net advances of about 7 to 9 points on the general list.

Buying was held In check by continued as the effect of possible notices on Tuesday, or by the usual week-end consideration, and the market lost a good nart of Its gain during the last few min utes. July was relatively steady during the greater part of the morning, compared with later months, narrowing slightly, as it previous liquidation naa im-ed Its technical position and left it a little more sensitive to covering by snorts. At the close, July seemed to be about 32 points under October, compared with a closing difference of 37 points on Friday. The amount of cotton on shipboard awaiting clearance at the end of the week was estimated at 107,000 bales, against 26,000 year. Private cables reported trade calling in STOCKS.
