Grandparents are crew, the first all-woman crew to participate in the Whitbread. "The Whitbread is considered the most grueling race in the world 33,000 miles of cold, heat, doldrums to roaring gales, icebergs and high seas," says Dawn's mom, Prudence Riley of Mt. Clemens. The race started in September in England, with legs to Uruguay, Australia, New Zealand, back to Uruguay, Ft. Lauderdale in mid-April and finishing in England in June.

Dawn's responsibilities include watch captain, engineer and diver, her mother says. Dawn, 25, grew up in St. Clair Shores and Harrison Township and graduated from L'Anse Creuse High in 1982. She received her bachelor's degree in advertising from Michigan State in 1986. She has sailed all her life she was only one month old when her parents first took her out on Lake St.

Clair, her mom says. She started racing dinghies at 14, learned sailmaking at 18, captained a boat in collegiate racing, has skippered several racing yachts and has sailed in 18 Mackinac races. Her family also includes her dad, Charles Riley of Windsor; sister Dana and her husband, Todd Senyko, of Mt. Clemens, and brother Todd Riley, who attends MSU. Shirley Wilson -A-.

Lv Sr i Donna Melchoir of Warren and Michael Barczewski of Troy were married Nov. 4 at Peace Lutheran Church in Warren, followed by a reception at Imperial House.
