Elaine Sdinakenberg selected as Homemaker of Tomorrow Elaine Schnakenberg The Lu Verne Community School's 1966 Betty. Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow is Elaine Schnakenberg. She scored highest in a written knowledge and attitude examination taken by senior girls December 7,1965. and is now eligible for state and national scholarship awards. Elaine has already earned a special award pin from the program's sponsor, General Mills. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thees Schnakenberg. Elaine was the 1965 Lu Verne Band Queen Candidate for the Algona Band Festival. She has received a National Merit Scholarship Letter Commendation and an "Admission with Recognition and Award" at Iowa State University which includes an award of $100.00. Her senior year curriculum includes: English, Home Economics, physics, trigonometry, bookkeeping, and government. Elaine is active in speech, band, mixed chorus, and cheerleading at school. She is also an active member in the Walther League of the Zion Lutheran Church in Lu Verne, where she is Christian Growth Chairman. Next year Elaine will attend Iowa State University at Ames, where she is enrolled in the College of Home Economics. Debaters At Coe Tourney The debate team of Algona high school, under direction of John Vint, local Algona high school instructor, participated in the annual Coe College Speech Tournament at Coe College at Cedar Rapids on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 21, 22.
