Garden Tips By the Morning Glory Garden Club YOUR GARDEN NEEDS YOU Summer is about here. Spring has turned the corner.

Your garden will reflect this change in seasons. Spring annuals slow down flower production, gel mildew, wither and really deserve to be junked. Most important, water frequently and deeply to encourage plants to develop exU'iisivi? root systems able to cope with the summer heat. Frequently water newly planted trees, shrubs and flowers. If plants in full sun look as if they are in danger of wilting, sprinkle overhead or provide temporary shade.

Bermuda and other warm season grasses really get to grow as temperatures increase. Mow Bermuda grass close and often to cut down on thatch build-up. HOW TO SALVAGE POTTED BULBS in the fall and winter, garden centers sell daffodils, hyacinths and tulips in full bloom in pots. It's really a shame that we often just display these bulbs for their few weeks of bloom, neglect them or throw them away. it is easy to salvate the daffodils, plant them next fall and the following spring get a good show.

Hyacinths and tulips are not so easily rescued but it can be done. As soon as the bulbs finish blooming, move them outside if you have had them in the house. Cut off the dead flowers. Plant pot and all up to the rirn, in a sunny, shaded spot. Water thoroughly and feed with some kind of fertilizer.

The bulb will continue to grow and store food for next year's flowers. When the foliage starts to wilt, withhold water gradually; stop watering entirely. Next, dump the bulbs out of the pot, shake off the loose dirt and store in a dark, dry place until next fall. (You can leave the bulb in the pot until next fall if you keep water away from them). BEST TIME TO PLANT FIGS Figs thrive on heat, planted now from nursery cans, they will take off fast.

There is little danger of root rot. You will find several kinds of figs available this month. All are fast, easy growing, valuable for shade, as espaliers or for their fruit alone.
