In fact most people never con sciously consider just what a pub lic health program is or what it does for them because a public health program doe? not deal so much with the individual as it does with the cdffimunity Briefly the ideal public health department has six functions: 1 Registration of births death and diseases 2 Control of communicable dis eases Control of environmental san itation 4 Provision of public health la boratory services 5 Protection and guidance of the health of mothers infants and children Dissemination of health infor mation And briefly the public health program has three goals: the de velopment of health orebody and mind and the postponement of death A public health program should not be confused with medical care which is a matter of personal aer If you and your family were to get malaria you would go to a doctor for treatment That medi cal care But if you didn get nd of the breeding places of the mosquitoes responsible for the malana ypu couidh keep
