Dr. Albert Lippitt Active optometrist, jeweler For 50 years, Dr. Albert Lippitt cared for the eyes and embellished the wrists, necks and fingers of hundreds of people at his optometry and jewelry store on Woodward in Highland Park.

He retired in the late li'tiOs and spent time golfing, bowling, reading and painting. He bowled a (i'10 series at age 83. On Tuesday, Dr. Lippitt, 93, was about to go for his usual breakfast at McDonald's when he died of cardiac arrest at his residence in Sunrise, Fla. He was a graduate of the Pennsylvania State College of Optometry.

His father was also an optometrist who inspired his son's career. Dr. Lippitt, who lived in Troy for many years, is survived by his son, Norman; daughter, Sarah Frank; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Services are at 2:30 p.m. today at Ira Kaufman Chapel, 18325 W.

Maxwell Austin Received medal for heroism April 10, 1945, was one of the proudest days of Maxwell Austin's life: He received a Soldier's Medal for heroism on lyte. The incident happened in 1944 when he was in the Army field artillery, and he and six other soldiers joined two officers removing ammunition, machine guns and loaded trucks from a fire that threatened to detonate explosives. Mr.

Austin, 92, of Wixom, died of heart failure Tuesday at Danto Health Care Center in West Bloom-field Township. He attended the University of Michigan and became a designer and builder for Walter Couse and Company of Detroit, general contractors. He was involved in the building of many churches and commercial buildings throughout the area, including St. John's Armenian Church in Southfield. He and his wife, Dorothy, had been married 16 years.

His stepdaughter Bonnie Daws said: "It was a l(i-year honeymoon." He is also survived by a son, Maxwell Heigho; stepson, Norbert Wittliff; three grandchildren, and a sister. Visitation is from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Sister Leo Canavan Taught school for 40 years A 40-year career as a teacher in Catholic schools in and around Detroit culminated in an active 25-year retirement for Sister Leo Therese Canavan, IHM, who died of heart disease Tuesday at the IHM Health Care Center in Monroe. She was 91. Sister Canavan, born Harriet Canavan in Detroit, attended Holy Redeemer High School and graduated from Marygrove College after joining the Immaculate Heart of Mary order as Sister Leo Therese. She taught at elementary schools in Detroit including All Saints, Blessed Sacrament, St.

Charles and St. Martin, Our Lady of Lourdes in River Rouge and St. Frederick in Pohtiac. During her retirement she became especially noted for her baking. Cookies were her specialty just about any variety people wanted.

"If she knew you liked chocolate chip, she would make chocolate chip," said Sister Jeannette Walter, IHM. Sister Leo Therese also was an accomplished seamstress and artist. The funeral mass is at 10 a.m. today at the Motherhouse Chapel at 610 W. Elm, Monroe.

Burial will be in the cemetery on the campus. Stephen Isaac Law-enforcement veteran Second-generation Detroit Police Officer Stephen Isaac, whose father Albert served the city for 25 years, died of an abdominal aneurysm Friday at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. He was 53. He moved to Traverse City after leaving the Detroit department in 1983 and became a deputy sheriff for Grand Traverse County, a post he held until 1983, when he went into private security work. He loved fishing, hunting and being outdoors, said his sister, Linda Scott.

In addition to his sister, Mr. Isaac is survived by his father; his companion Beverly Gravlin; sons Christopher, Matthew and David; a second sister, and a brother. A memorial service will be held in the spring after the birth of Mr. Isaac's first grandchild. EARNEST KURTH CATHERINE T.

Heuschele, 69, one of the San Diego Zoo's top veterinarians and foremost champion of endangered species, died Monday after a long illness. Dr.

Heuschele had been the longtime director of the Zoological Society of San Diego's Center for Reproduction of Endangered Species, or CRES. CRES was founded in 1975 with the goal of using scientific advances to help reverse the decline of rare and endangered wildlife species. George Jahn Officer in merchant marine SAN FRANCISCO George Jahn, 83, a merchant marine officer who survived torpedo attacks in World War II and commanded the ship Jeremiah O'Brien on a historic voyage to France in 1994, died Saturday of lung failure. Mr. Jahn and his crew sailed the San Francisco-based ship to France on the 50th anniversary of D-Day.

The ship had taken part in the 1944 invasion as a liberty ship, a merchant vessel pressed into WWII service to carry war materials. Mr. Jahn held the rare rank of rear admiral in the U.S. Maritime Service. His World War II exploits included being torpedoed off Hawaii a few days after Pearl Harbor and drifting in a lifeboat for nine days.

Iter, he commanded a freighter on the deadly Murmansk run to the Soviet Union as well as the Normandy invasion. Coles Trapnell Produced 'Maverick' series LOS ANGELES Coles Trapnell, 88, who wrote and produced the early "Maverick" TV series and edited "Four Star Playhouse," died Friday of coronary thrombosis. Mr. Trapnell joined RKO as a reader in 1936 and soon after became a story editor and associate producer at 20th Century Fox. "Four Star Playhouse," which first aired in 1954, was a dramatic series that starred Charles Boyer, Ida Lu-pino, Dick Powell and David Niven.

Mr. Trapnell was with the show until it closed in 1956. He wrote and produced the "Maverick" cowboy series from 1959 to 1962 and later wrote for the series "Lawman" and "Yancy Derringer."
