This week in 20 YEARS AGO (1978) LAKE JACKSON parents responsible for done by their minor children was one of three steps taken Monday night by the City Council in an effort to lessen vandalism and traffic offenses by juveniles. The Miss Ricebelt Ricebelt Teen USA pageant has 19 contestants, where the two winners will win expenses paid to the state contests and prizes including a modeling school scholarship, a pageant gown and cocktail dress, personal trainer and cash, as well as beauty products for skin and hair. Doors open at 1:15 p.m., and tickets are $10 (ages 8 and under free) and include a souvenir pageant program book.

Danbury poet published in national anthology Rhonda Rose Eakin of Danbury has had her original poetry published in Priceless Treasures, a treasury of jjoetry compiled by the National Library of Poetry. Her poem is entitled More Precious Than Gold, and deals with the love of a mother. Eakin has been writing for 10 years and her favorite topics are "people who make a difference in life with love or talent," she says.
