S. banks, the new Churchill Crown has already been advertised at prices representing a reasonable service charge over face. Considering the holder, which merits about a 15 cent charge, single specimens are available now from 95 cents to $1.10. The number of dealers offering in lots of 100 indicate the massive shipments that have been sent to the American market. This has undercut British dealers, who no doubt assumed the coins would be available in Britain first, so there would be a temporary market for eager collectors in Her Majesty's late colonies. The coin press tells us, however, that the coin is still relatively scarce in the homeland as the Initial mintings went abroad to get that much needed foreign exchange. I haven't seen the coin as yet. Apparently there will be two varieties afc the first strikes lacked much of the detail on the Churchhill engraving. This is the reverse of the usual when first strikes are presumed best. It remains to be seen whether the difference will be considered significant enough to merit a separate listing. - o - The new Christmas stamp is something less than an inspiration and a joy to use. At least we continue to be consistant with the worst of the various issues produced throughout the world. In this case, I would question whether consistancy is a virtue. I am getting a bit weary of apologizing for these seasonal efforts to my friends abroad. - o ~ The Yemen area continues in a state of civil war between the loyalist forces of the Iman and the military junta supported by Eygpt. A recent stamp issue of the revolutionary group commemorates the uprising, but a slight blunder was made. Very few Yemen tribes support the Eygptian-backed government, but a portion of one tribal group did so, to show local support, a warrior was prominently featured on one of the stamps. However, the tribe has since overthrown the rebel leader and pledged loyality to the Iman. A great frontier adventure! No doubt some action will be taken immediately on postal items. Coins and currency take longer, so there may or may not be time for some changes. Even if the government should be sustained, the stamps, at least, will see (Continued 00 Next Page) WEDNESDAY at 11:15 p. m. Midnight Show, "Dr, Goldfoot and The Bikini Machine."
