(84 & 86) Offer Farm Study Program For Operators NIAD, Mason City Junior College and the Iowa Extension Service cooperated together on a new course for farm managers and operators. The program, to be offered at Mason City Junior College, is designed to be a study in depth of technology and management skills necessary for present day agriculture. Both extension specialists and resident instruction staff from Iowa State University will teach the several subject areas. A total of 72 hours of instruction will be offered over a twelve week period every Thursday, Jan. 6 - .March 24. The hours will be 9 to 4 and the program fee is $40, Instruction will be in the following areas: 1. Farm Management - Economic principles, decision making, farm records, budgeting, choice of enterprise, farm labor utilization and farm credit, 2. Livestock Production Feeding, genetics, marketing, selection and merchandising of products, 3. Agricultural Engineering Machinery management, harvesting and storage systems, and use of farm power. 4. Soil and Crop Management - Soil formation and classification, fertility maintenance, crop growth, cropping systems and weed control. Anyone may apply who has an expressed interest in farming and in learning more about current factors important in the operation of a farm.
